Sabraski stacks another Late Model win to his total while Adams, Blevins, Beaulieu, Helget & Ruzich roll to WISSOTA Classic titles at Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MN (September 4) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series continued its five-night racing weekend on Friday, September 4 at Grand Rapids Speedway in Grand Rapids, MN for the 32nd WISSOTA Classic.

The largest field of WISSOTA Late Model competitors during the last 10 years was on hand. Kevin Burdick set fast time with a lap of 13.385 seconds around the Iron Range oval.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Blake Adams, Michael Blevins, Sr., Josh Beaulieu, Dylan Helget and Nick Ruzich.

Cory Crapser and Billy Kendall earned the front row for the night’s $3,000-to-win, 40-lap feature event and Kendall took the early lead from outside of the front row until a grinder of a crash took place as the field rumbled through turns one and two. The 11-car pileup brought out the red flag for cleanup.

Several drivers including Johnny Broking, Danny Vang, Dexton Koch, Rick Niemi and Gunner Frank were unable to continue, while Ryan Mikkelson and Zach Wohlers went to the hot pit area, and were able to make repairs and re-join the tail for the restart.

Crapser took advantage of the second restart and took off into the lead, while Kendall and Sabraski raced hard for second during the opening lap. Just behind Chad Mahder, Joel Bennett and Kevin Burdick were in a great three-car battle for the fourth spot.

Wohlers got turned around in turn two on lap eight, causing the second yellow of the night. On the ensuing restart, Kendall powered by Crapser into the lead and tried to drive off into the night, while Crapser found his hands full with Sabraski for runner-up honors.

As the field raced by the halfway point, the third caution was triggered with a Mikkelson spin on lap 22, bunching the field up once again. Sabraski took advantage of the restart this time and pounced on Kendall for the lead. Sabraski took the top spot on lap 23 and began to stretch it over the field until the fourth and final yellow flag flew on lap 27 for a Mahder/Crapser tangle in turn one while battling inside the top five.

On the restart, Sabraski took back off into the lead and ran alone out front during the final laps of the race to pick up the WISSOTA Classic victory by 3.152 seconds over Kendall. Mahder held on for the final podium spot, with point leader Burdick fourth and defending series champion Mass in fifth.

Sixth through 10th were Jeff Provinzino, Mikkelson, Derek Vesel, Jeff Massingill and Harry Hanson.

Caley Emerson had the advantage from the onset of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature, while Paul Ripley and Beaulieu engaged in a tussle for second in the early laps of the feature. Brennan Schmidt was fourth and Blake Adams cracked the top five with a few laps complete.

Beaulieu got a run to the inside of Emerson with 10 laps to go and passed him for the lead down the backstretch. As Beaulieu headed into turn four, a lapped car cut across the nose of Beaulieu and upset his race car, which caused Beaulieu to then elbow Emerson out of the lane. Beaulieu escaped with a healthy lead before the yellow fell for debris.

Back underway Beaulieu continued to lead ahead of Ripley, who was trying to hold off Emerson and Adams. Adams took second one lap later with five laps to go.

A late caution set up a mad dash to the finish and Beaulieu survived, taking the checkered flag ahead of Adams, Ripley, Emerson and Schmidt.

Blevins was the early leader in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Early on he was chased by Cameron Labelle and Dalton Carlson before the caution fell with 10 laps left on the board.

Following the restart, Blevins remained in control ahead of Labelle and Carlson, who was under heavy pressure from Shane Sabraski for third. Dexton Koch was fifth. A caution for a one-car spin in turn four with four laps to go brought the field back together.

Back under green with Blevins out front, Carlson muscled his way past into second, and Sabraski and Koch followed through in third and fourth as Labelle fell back to fifth.

Blevins cruised to the victory in the remaining green-flag laps and took the victory ahead of Carlson, who narrowly held off Sabraski for second. Koch and Labelle completed the top five.

Blake Adams led early in the WISSOTA Modified feature, holding a narrow advantage in the opening laps ahead of Lance Schilling. Bob Broking, Matt Depiero and John Toppozini held top-five spots. A caution brought the field back together with 23 laps still on the board.

With the green out over the field, Adams held the lead ahead of Broking, who moved to second. Schilling was under heavy pressure from Kennedy Swan and Sabraski for third, and as the threesome headed into turn one Schilling went around and the yellow fell with five laps complete.

Adams set the pace out front once again, with Broking feeling the heat from Swan and Sabraski for second. Sabraski took third, and Jody Bellefeuille entered the fray in fifth. A caution for a Mervin Castle III spin brought the field to a halt.

As the field got back underway, Sabraski and Broking were side by side for second behind Adams. Swan and Bellefeuille were in their own side-by-side battle for fourth. Sabraski was able to pull away from Broking and set off toward Adams, trying to reel him in.

Adams was strong through lapped traffic and took the victory ahead of Sabraski. After it was determined Bellefeuille missed tech, the official rundown included Broking, Swan and Cole Chernosky in the top five.

Austin Carlson took the lead from Dylan Elhardt in the early stages of the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature. Helget was third, Bob Klein was fourth, and Austin Fencl was close in fifth.

Carlson began to feel the heat once more from Elhardt with seven laps to go and contact was made between Elhardt and Carlson, with Elhardt spinning in front of the grandstand.

Back under green, Helget held the lead ahead of Klein, Alex Berg, Carlson, who was charging back to the front, and Jake Smith. In the waning laps, Carlson made his way to second, but came up just short of victory. Helget took the win ahead of Carlson, Berg, Klein and Fencl in the top five.

Nick Ruzich took the lead to complete the first lap of the WISSOTA Hornet feature from his seventh starting spot and never looked back enroute to the victory. Brady Fosso advanced four spots to finish second, Jacob Petrich was third, Chad Reller was fourth and Aiden Kessler completed the top five.
