Peterson doubles up, Berg comes from 12th and Jose gets second win at River Cities Speedway

GRAND FORKS, ND (July 31) - Tyler Peterson doubled up once again, Jory Berg was victorious from 12th, and Greg Jose scored his second win at River Cities of the season, as the Grand Forks-area race track hosted another program of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing Friday.

Tyler Peterson and Brad Seng made up the front row at the beginning of the WISSOTA Late Model main event. Shane Edginton and Tucker Pederson moved past Seng in the opening lap before Seng spun in turn two on the third lap.

Pederson and Edginton resumed their battle for second, allowing Peterson to pull away by a 1.5 seconds. Edginton won the battle over Tucker Peterson for second as rookie Josh Beaulieu and Jason Strand battled door-to-door for fourth before the midway point.

The pair began to reel in Pederson for third as Strand broke on the frontstretch on the 10th lap allowing Pederson to open up some ground in that battle for the final podium spot. Peterson continued to lead.

The final 18 laps were caution free as Peterson went on to collect his seventh Late Model win at the speedway of the season by nearly 7 seconds ahead of Edginton, Pederson, Brody Troftgruben and John Seng in the top five.

Jordan Duray and Brenden Luschinski paced the field at the beginning of the WISSOTA Modified main event. Luschinski led the opening lap and continued to show the way out front following a second lap caution. Tyler Peterson split Rick Delaine and Sean Teunis in a three-car battle for third on lap three, moving past both drivers and then Duray on the following lap to move into second.

Peterson's charge from sixth continued as he took the lead from Luschinski on the sixth lap. Peterson continued to lead following a trio of cautions before the midway point and went on to build a 3-second advantage with seven to go as Delaine and Duray completed the podium.

Duray and Aaron Holtan battled for third in what became the best battle on the track in the second half of the race. The Greenbush Race Park regulars swapped the position late in the race with Holtan eventually winning that battle as Peterson went on to win his second Modified main event victory of the season at the speedway. Delaine, Holtan, Duray, and Luschinski completed the top five.

Kenna Breidenbach and Cylen Vargason shared the front row of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod main event. The initial start was waved off in what would prove to be a trend as the race was marred by multiple caution flags. Vargason continued to lead following slow downs on laps two, five, and eight as point leader Austin Hunter battled Breidenbach for second.

Twelfth-starting Jory Berg made his way into the top five for the first time before the fourth caution, and continued his charge forward just before the midway point, moving into a podium spot before the fifth caution on lap 10. Berg took second from Hunter on the ensuing restart and went on to trade slide jobs with Vargason for the lead.

The pair made contact coming off of turn four coming to seven to go as Berg took the lead and as Vargason spun in turn two with seven to go. Berg led the final four laps as the race reached the time limit, winning his third of the season at the speedway. Hunter, Brennan Schmidt, Reise Stenberg, and Taylor Jacobson rounded out the top five.

Greg Jose and Trey Hess made up the front row of the WISSOTA Street Stock main event. The pair remained side by side for the entirety of the opening lap with Jose completing the circuit as the leader. Seven-time winner Cole Greseth completed the podium as Hess took the lead on the second lap, running the top of the track as Greseth followed him around the high line before the first caution on the third lap.

Jose took the lead back on the ensuing restart as Greseth moved past Hess on the bottom of one and two at the beginning of the fourth lap, continuing the “Greseth and Jose Show,” which has been the norm in the division all season out front.

Greseth’s night ended at the beginning of lap six as mechanical woes sent him pit side, allowing Jose to build a five-car-length advantage ahead of Hess before the second caution on the seventh lap. Veteran drivers Doug VanMill and John Halvorson took the second and third spots, respectively, when the race resumed as Jose built a 2-second lead.

With eight to go, Tyler Schrenk went for a tumble on the frontstretch, bringing out the red flag; he exited the car and was okay. Hess continued to battle Halvorson for third following the cleanup on the frontstretch, with Hess eventually moving back into a podium spot for good with five to go.

Hess and VanMill remained side-by-side for the remainder of the race as Jose pulled away for his second victory of the season. VanMill, Hess, Halvorson, and Blaine Barnes completed the top five.
