Arment, Stearns, North, Stark & Michaelsohn get Brown County back on solid footing with Friday night wins

ABERDEEN, SD (July 31) - Brown County Speedway returned to racing action after last weekend’s fiasco with Mother Nature. It was Kid’s Night at the speedway, which included a driver meet and greet prior to the races. A lot of prizes were given away to the kids, while on track 88 racers filled the pits with victory lane in mind.

Jodie Michaelsohn, Todd Stark, Mike Stearns, Bryson North and Kent Arment were all victorious in their respective WISSOTA Dirt Track Series classes.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were on hand with 19 drivers in attendance. This race had a full moon effect feel to it, as it was a caution-plagued event. Tony Smith and Clifford Houser led the race to green and Smith had the early advantage. The first caution struck on lap two, which put Chris Serr and Jayden Bogh to Smith’s bumper.

As the field restarted, the battle for the lead was getting good and the top three opened a gap on the field. While they were battling, Smith bobbled in turn four and that allowed Serr to peek to the inside; as they went into turn one Serr made contact with Smith and sent him spinning. The caution waved and Serr was sent tailback for the caution.

On the ensuing restart Jodie Michaelsohn took the lead from Smith, just for the race to be struck with another yellow with six to go. That caution flags seemed to start the avalanche, as the field had multiple attempts at the restart and could not get through the first set of turns. Officials made the call to cut the race to three laps, which still did not help as the field just could not get a lap in.

The drivers were told the next flag ends the race, and as they went through turn two caution struck again. The race was called and Michaelsohn picked up his first win at BCS this year. Thirteenth-starter Maria Broksieck was second, ahead of 10th-starter Adam Dehne in third. Andy Rossow and Ashley Wampler completed the top five.

Next the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out on track, with 20 drivers in the field. Nathan Jager and Todd Stark led the field to green. Stark grabbed the early lead, rolling the bottom. Meanwhile, Dawson Zabel ripped the top and began to close in on Stark. Zabel and Stark began to battle with 10 to go as Scott Hansen followed right behind them. Zabel got a huge run through turn four and looked to grab the lead with eight to go, but the lone caution struck and gave the lead back to Stark.

On the restart, Stark took the blessing of the caution and moved up to the cushion. Stark opened up a straightaway gap up top, as Zabel, Hansen and Kyle Anderson battled for second. Stark was in lapped traffic with two to go, but made the right moves to secure his second win at BCS this year. Zabel, Hansen, Taylor Schmidt and Kyle Anderson completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were next with 11 drivers on hand. Chaun Peterson and Kent Arment led the field to green and Peterson held the early advantage while rolling the bottom. On lap three, Peterson changed his line in turn one and he jumped the cushion, handing the lead to Arment.

As Arment took control, he opened a lead on the field. The caution struck with 14 to go, and as was the theme for the night, it took a few restarts to get going. Once the field was green again, Arment was under fire from Mike Stearns and Preston Carr.

The lead trio was in lapped traffic with six to go. Carr got around Stearns and challenged Arment, but caution struck with three to go.

On the restart, Stearns went to the top, diamonding turns one and two, and Arment responded with a slider in turn four. But the slider was too strong and sent Arment off the track.

Stearns took advantage of the mishap and checked out to grab his fourth win at BCS in the class. Carr, Tony Konold, Garrett Gross and Andy Brooker completed the top five.

WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled with 16 drivers set to battle. Dominique Menzia and Stewart Schipke led the field to green, with Schipke running the middle to race into the top spot. The first caution struck on lap two, and just like the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, they could not get a lap in. The officials cut the race down to 14 to go.

When the field got going again, Bryson North found something up top and began reeling in Schipke. As North closed in, he snuck just to the outside of Schipke to take the lead with seven laps left. The next lap the caution was out once again.

Following the restart, North shot out like a rocket up top. Nobody had anything for him during the closing laps and he went on to score his first win at BCS in 2026. Schipke, Menzia, Austin Arbogast and Mark Abeln were top-five finishers.

WISSOTA Late Models rounded out the night with 13 drivers, two Aberdeen powerhouses in Chad Becker and Mike Stearns sat on the front row and Becker was the early leader.

Becker set the pace and put himself in lapped traffic with about eight laps scored. The first caution struck with 15 to go, and on the restart Stearns and Josh Skorczewski were all over Becker, as the top three opened a gap to the field quickly.

The gap was cut short as caution struck again with nine to go. Skorczewski began to battle Becker, and he rolled the bottom while Becker ripped the very thin cushion.

The cushion struck Becker in turn three, as he jumped the cushion then shot down the track, which ended with contact with Skorczewski, who held his line on the bottom. Becker was charged with the yellow and ended up pulling off.

Skorczewski took control following the restart, while Stearns and 12th-starter Kent Arment entered the fray. The battle was on between Skorczewski and Arment, as Arment rolled the bottom past Skorczewski with only two to go. Arment held off the late charge from Stearns to score his third win in the class. Skorczewski, Stearns, Konner Sperle and Morgan Grosz completed the top five.

The INEX Legends were also on hand with nine drivers in attendance. The battle was good among the top five, as Dusty Mund used the cushion to score his fourth win of the year at BCS.
