Schill, Holtan, Blacklance, Halvorson and Carlson claim Saturday night scores at Greenbush Race Park

GREENBUSH, MN (August 8) - A perfect night of warm weather and sunny skies greeted racers and fans alike as one of the most anticipated events on the racing calendar took place at Greenbush Race Park on Saturday night.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Aaron Blacklance, Aaron Holtan, Cole Schill, John Halvorson and Austin Carlson.

The first class to hit the track was the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, led by Kade Leeper and Chad Puschinsky. Puschinsky battled for the top spot early on, as he and Leeper separated a bit from the field. Several restarts tightened the field back up and national points leader Austin Carlson took advantage; he snagged the lead just after the midway point of the race and cruised to the victory ahead of Puschinsky. Jake Smith finished third followed by Chris Smeby and Mason Scholin in the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were up with a full field of cars, and they put on a great show. Tucker Jacobson and Taylor Jacobson led the field at the start of the race. Once underway, it was clear that Aaron Blacklance was the car to beat. Soon he was in a battle for the lead and once he got there, he separated from the field. Taylor Jacobson had an eventful feature, as he went forward and back during the race and ultimately ended up in the runner-up spot behind Blacklance. Coming home in third place was the hard charging Josh Beaulieu. Connor Drewry and Skyler Smith rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature started with Jerome Berger and Jon Halvorson on the front row. Those two drivers had a clean, spirited battle throughout the early part of the race. A lot of respect and skill was shown by those drivers as they navigated a tricky racing surface, with several lines of slick and sticky areas. As the race went on it was clear Halvorson had the best car in turns three and four. Meanwhile, Trey Hess had the best car in turns one and two. Once Hess made his way into second place it was a great sprint to the checkered flag for the last five laps. When the checkers were in the air, Halvorson took the win followed by Hess and Berger in third. Chris Dudley and Deryk Weleski completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were set to take the green flag with Jordan Duray and Aaron Holtan out front. From the drop of the flag, it was apparent Holtan was going to be a problem for the rest of the field. He quickly sent his car to a sizable lead. Behind him, a battle of attrition started to take place as a few collisions and numerous cautions shuffled the running order several times. The one constant in the mix was the lead car of Holtan, who survived all the restarts and cruised home to the victory, ahead of Patrick Sobolik, Duray, Dustin Wahl and Michael Tiani in the top five.

The final event of the evening was the NLRA WISSOTA Late Models. They had 25 laps to decide the winner and put on a great show. Shane Edginton and Cole Schill started on the front row. Early on in the race it looked like Edington might make it two wins in a row, before Schill slipped by and pulled away a bit as the laps began to dwindle. Soon Edginton was facing challenges from Joey Pederson and Dustin Strand. Pederson made his way to second before a caution flag wiped that progress away. On the restart, Dustin Strand seized the opportunity and eventually claimed the third position.

Out front Schill remained in control to the checkered flag ahead of Edginton, Dustin Strand, Pederson and Jason Strand in the top five.

The track’s Four Cylinder class was led to green by Nick McCann and Jonah Espe. Espe had the early advantage and led for several laps. Gabriel Espe showed he had the speed to contend for the win as he closed the gap and battled for the lead. However, after causing a caution flag, he was sent to the rear of the field.

After the restart Nick McCann seized the opportunity and brought home the win followed by Jonah Espe, Brooke McCann, and Jayme Gordon in fourth.
