Kromschroeder, VandeKamp, Holmquist and Lange lock up wins at Ogilvie, and Davis wins Mod Wars battle
By Tami Jo Kuehn
OGILVIE, MN (July18) - The second night of the Mod Wars special kicked off Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, with 113 drivers checking in to battle.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Dylan Kromschroeder, Jason VandeKamp, William Lange and Dustin Holtquist, while Brandon Davis topped the USMTS feature.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were first on the night’s agenda, led to green by Tommy Bawden and Kromschroeder. As the green dropped, Kromschroeder claimed the early advantage with Ryan Kostreba and Denis Czech in tow. Kostreba kept close to Kromschroeder and just as he made the pass for first, the caution came out.
Kromschroeder was in command on the restart and drivers spaced out on the race surface. With five laps to go, contact occurred following a restart and the race went red as drivers were tended to. The Super Stocks went green a final time, and Kromschroeder grabbed the win with Shane Sabraski, Kostreba, Kolby Kiehl and Denis Czech in the top five.
Will Lange (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Randy Jacoboski sped off with the lead as the WISSOTA Hornets went green, with Christian Kast, Selena Owen and William Lange to his rear. Kast grabbed second and remained glued to Jacoboski as Lange closed in. Kast and Lange raced side by side as they moved to Jacoboski’s doors. The top three raced three wide with Jacoboski holding the line. Lange’s line was faster the next lap as he nosed ahead with a few laps to go. Jacoboski and Lange raced close as contact occurred, and Lange’s car came to a halt. The field was reset and the final restart was a shootout with Lange claiming victory. Following post-race tech, Kast, Jacoboski, Selena Owen and Tyson DeVente were the official top five.
Jason VandeKamp (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Of the 40 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds signed in to race for the evening, 24 started the feature event. VandeKamp and David Swearingen brought the field to green with VandeKamp taking command. The yellow flag then appeared as cars collided in turn four and the field was reset.
VandeKamp and Jake Smith were door to door when the green reappeared and remained close as they circled the Big O. VandeKamp had the slight advantage on the straightaway, but Smith was back at his door in the turns as they swapped for the lead. Eventually VandeKamp broke away with the lead. Smith kept close to VandeKamp as drivers began to space out, and with a few laps to go, VandeKamp prepared to lap slower cars. VandeKamp snagged his second win of the weekend ahead of Smith, Joey Jensen, Devin Fouquette and Adam Bohlman in the top five.
Dustin Holtquist (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Dustin Holtquist emerged with the lead early on in the WISSOTA Mod Fours. Tyler Larson and Thomas Burgard grabbed second and third as the top drivers immediately spread out. Holtquist established a solid lead as laps passed quickly. With just four laps remaining to complete, a caution was triggered placing Ashton Schwinn and Larson on Holtquist’s bumper. Dustin Holtquist was unfazed by the restart as he pulled away from the field and continued on to take the win. Positions two through five were claimed by Tyler Larson, Schwinn, Connor Bruss and Robert Holtquist.
Brandon Davis led from start to finish in the USMTS headliner, and though Jim Chisholm worked his way into second with a handful of laps left, Davis was too strong out front and took the victory. Chisholm, Jake Timm, Landon Atkinson and Rodney Sanders completed the top five.
