Anderson wins Street Stock tour stop at Rice Lake and Fencl picks up the track’s highest Pure Stock payoff on Saturday
By Ed Reichert
RICE LAKE, WI (July 12) - Parker Anderson made a triumphant return to Rice Lake Speedway on Saturday night, as the former WISSOTA Street Stock National Champion made his first start of the year a great one, topping a strong field of Street Stocks to win the Dirt Race Central Street Stock Tour stop.
Thanks to fan contributions, the Pure Stock drivers raced for the most money ever at the speedway, and Austin Fencl took the checkered flag in that class for the win. Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners Saturday included Shane Halopka, Nick Koehler and Tommy Richards in an eventful night at the speedway.
Twenty-four drivers started the WISSOTA Street Stock DRC Tour event. Justin Vogel used the cushion to edge past Andrew Hanson and lead the opening lap. Anderson, who started fourth, moved into second before the first yellow waved with three laps completed.
Anderson then put the pressure on Vogel on the restart, slipping past him one lap later to take over the lead. Vogel wasn't done yet, as he charged back and raced side by side with Anderson. The lead group also included five-time 2025 winner Nick Traynor and Hunter VanGilder, as the top-five drivers ran in a very tight pack.
Two more yellows in the first half of the race kept the field bunched. By the halfway point of the race, VanGilder was up to second and, using the low line, nearly slipped past Anderson while Vogel and Traynor were still right in the mix.
Traynor picked up speed and then challenged Vogel, who was now back into second when the last yellow appeared following an incident where Bryar Zimmerman suffered a leg injury, stopping the contest for several moments.
Anderson continued to hold the lead for the last three laps, as Traynor attacked from the inside lane. During the last two laps Traynor came shooting up the track as he attempted to get under Anderson, but Anderson fought off all challenges. They raced out of the final corner side by side with Anderson holding off the pack to get the win. Traynor settled for a very close second with VanGilder rounding out the podium finishers.

The last-minute fund-raising activities for the WISSOTA Pure Stocks was given the moniker the “Bomber Bash”, and gave drivers the shot at a substantial payday Saturday.
Fencl started on the pole and took off from the pack, taking advantage of the big battle for second among several drivers.
Fencl had nearly a full straightaway advantage when George Richards finally broke through into the runner-up slot.
Fencl continued to run a smooth race and successfully navigated his way through several slower cars. Richards continued his charge and did narrow the gap down to several car lengths, but could never quite get close enough to provide a stiff challenge. Fencl drove on for his second-ever feature win at Rice Lake. Trevor Phillips had by far his best run of the year, as he came from ninth to finish a strong third.
While the total amount won by Fencl was still being calculated at press time, it was believed Fencl went home with about $2,000 for his win.
Tommy Richards (Brent Creaser Photo)
Alex Myers took the lead from the pole in the WISSOTA Super Stocks. In the early going Myers was challenged by fourth-starter Tommy Richards. A couple drivers, led by Leslie Leu and Andrew Davis, found the cushion and began to move up, challenging Myers as they moved to second and third. By the halfway point of the race, Richards had slipped all the way back to fifth, as Kyle Copp was also on the move.
However, Richards continued to work the low line and he edged back up to third as Myers now fought off Davis, who took over second.
The yellow flew for a stalled car on the front chute just as the white flag was set to wave and this required a two-lap reset for the race. On the green, Myers got a bit high in turn one and this opened the gates; Richards shot up on the inside line and stole the lead. As the top four raced to the finish, Richards edged the others out for his second win of the year at the oval. Leu got a great run off the final corner and nipped Davis for second, with Myers slipping all the way back to fourth in what was quite a shocking finish.
Shane Halopka (Brent Creaser Photo)
Brent Prochnow was the early leader in the WISSOTA Modified feature, but shortly after Halopka took over the top spot. Prochnow had an incident with an infield tire that ended his night, with Simon Wahlstrom then moving into second.
As Halopka continued to lead, Adams tracked down and passed Wahlstrom just at the halfway point of the race, and then he started to catch the leader. The last half-dozen laps were classic dirt track racing with Halopka and Adams executing slide job after slide job on each other. The lead was exchanged at least four times over that period of laps.
One last slide on the final lap gave Halopka the advantage and Adams’ last corner charge came up a car length short, as Halopka drove on for the win. Wahlstrom had a fine run for third, trailed by Mike Anderson and Aiden Hoffman in the top five.
Nick Koehler (Brent Creaser Photo)
In the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, it’s been difficult to beat Nick Koehler in 2025. That proved to be the case once again on Saturday. Jake Stai started on the pole and held the early lead with Mike Schnider and Travis Anderson battling hard right behind Stai. Koehler took third when the race stagnated for a time with the yellow waving three straight times about lap four.
Finally, everyone settled in and the race continued, with Koehler moving to his customary high side line on the cushion and then driving his way forward. He drove around Stai down the back chute to take over the lead and drew away from the field. Meanwhile, after a good battle, Adams drove past both Anderson and Schnider to move into third. That’s the way they finished the race, with Koehler again visiting victory lane. Stai, Adams, Schnider and Anderson completed the top five.
