Glenz gets the headliner in Late Models and Nowak nabs Street Stock tour win at Red Cedar Speedway

MENOMONIE, WI (July 11) - It was a jam-packed night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing at Red Cedar Speedway Friday, as the track played host to the DRC WISSOTA Street Stock Tour, as well four of its other regular classes and a makeup Super Stock feature from May 30.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Jesse Glenz, Jeff Nowak, Jake Hartung, Joey Jensen, and Terran Spacek, who doubled up in the Super Stock class.

Spacek led the WISSOTA Super Stock makeup feature to green, holding command for the first five laps. Jesse Redetzke, who started sixth, worked his way forward into second. Chad Johnson, Avery Anderson and Tom Karis held top-five spots as the field began to stretch out and separate themselves from one another.

Spacek continued to lead the way at the halfway point, with Redetzke and Johnson in second and third, and Anderson and Karis fourth and fifth.

The No. 22 continued to hit his marks out front, while Redetzke had an equally sized advantage on the battle for third. Anderson moved in on Johnson, diving to the inside of the No. 25 with three laps to go, but did not have enough momentum to get by. In turn three during the final lap, Spacek came upon a lapped car in his preferred lane and contact was made; Spacek recovered and got by to take home the win. Redetzke, Johnson, Anderson and Karis were top-five finishers.

Joey Jensen (Jalen Kitchner Photo)

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were the first regularly scheduled feature to hit the track, led to green by Nick Koehler and Steve Haas. After Haas was docked for jumping the start and sent back a row, Koehler was the early leader at the drop of the initial green, with Brandon Jensen right behind and Brady Larson to Jensen’s inside. It was a drag race to complete lap one between Koehler and Brandon Jensen, and Brandon took the lead down the backstretch on the following lap before a caution - the first of many - fell and regrouped the field.

Brandon led the field back to green with two laps scored, as Koehler settled into second and Larson was close behind. Joey Jensen was fourth, while Justin Seipel hung in fifth. Joey Jensen displaced Larsen down the backstretch for second and set off after Koehler a lap later. A caution for Sydney Knopps regrouped the field, followed by another caution for Larson on the ensuing restart.

Brandon Jensen drove away from Koehler on the restart, with Koehler and Joey Jensen then fighting for second. Landyn Randt was fourth, and Seipel was fifth.

Brandon continued to stretch his lead as the field reached the halfway point before a caution for debris regrouped the field. Following the restart, Brandon took off at the green, with Joey getting by Koehler for second down the backstretch and narrowly having the spot at the start/finish line - before the caution fell for activities farther back in the pack.

Back underway in what became a green, white, checkered finish, Brandon and Joey were side by side down the backstretch, and Joey used the track to his advantage in turn four to take the lead from his brother Brandon. With the checkered flag in the air, Joey took the win ahead of Brandon, Koehler, 15th-starter Randt, and ninth-starter Tyler Vernon.

Avery Anderson was the early leader in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, taking charge of the field ahead of Andrew Hanson, Tommy Richards, Alex Myers and Spacek in the early going.

Anderson continued to lead lap two, as Richards moved to the inside of Hanson for second. Anderson was suddenly off the pace into turns three and four and a caution fell across the field.

Richards inherited the lead for the restart, as Spacek moved into second, with Hanson, Jesse Redetzke and Karis in a battle for third before another caution, this time for Dylan Leu, regrouped the field.

Back under green, Richards had a slight advantage over Spacek, while Davis, Redetzke and Myers held top-five spots. Spacek moved to the top shelf and began to make time on Richards, as Redetzke used the low side to get by Hanson at the halfway point.

One lap later Spacek’s momentum allowed him to sail past Richards for the lead down the backstretch, but a caution fell and negated the move. Richards brought the field back to green with eight left on the board, but Spacek powered past once again along the outside lane, taking the lead on the next go-round. Myers moved into third, with Redetzke fourth and Leslie Leu now fifth.

Spacek grew his lead to more than two seconds with three to go, as Myers closed in on Richards in second. The field was given the white flag, though Noah Shackleton had slowed in the high lane down the backstretch. The field went barreling by Shackleton, and the race was completed, with Spacek getting the win ahead of Richards, Myers, Redetzke and Leu in the top five.

Jeff Nowak (Jalen Kitchner Photo)

In the DRC WISSOTA Street Stock tour feature, Jeff Nowak was the early leader, but a wreck involving four racers brought the field back together with just one lap completed.

Nowak jumped back out front, with Jeff Ekdahl shaking out into second, Andrew Hanson racing in third, Nick Traynor moving into fourth and Cody Kummer in fifth to complete lap two. Kummer was caught up in contact along the backstretch and slowed to bring the caution once more.

Back under green Nowak slowly worked away from Ekdahl, as Hanson and Ekdahl fought for second and Justin Vogel and Traynor did the same for fourth. Another caution for a stalled racer in turn two brought the field to a standstill yet again.

Nowak continued to lead the way following the restart with just four laps scored, as Hanson took second from Ekdahl. Ekdahl was under heavy pressure from Traynor heading into turn three, with Dykhoff, Vogel and VanGilder three wide for top-five spots right behind them.

With 10 laps in the books, Nowak remained the leader, as Traynor made his way past Hanson, and Dykhoff and Vogel were side by side for fourth. Half a lap later Vogel used the high side to take fourth, and then set off after Hanson in third, getting the spot about a lap later.

Past the halfway point, Traynor began to make in-roads to Nowak’s lead. Vogel was third ahead of Dykhoff and Hanson in the top five, with VanGilder pressuring Hanson for the spot.

Even through lapped traffic that provided some degree of difficulty for Nowak, he was able to protect his lead and took the victory. He was followed to the checkered flag by Traynor, Dykhoff and VanGilder in the top five.

Jake Hartung (Jalen Kitchner Photo)

Calvin Iverson and Ben Hillman led the WISSOTA Modified feature to the green, with Iverson pulling away early. Jake Hartung grabbed second, Hillman was third, Mark Hanson was fourth and Dave Cain was fifth. Cain was then challenged by Shane Halopka and Mike Anderson, with Halopka getting by Cain and then Hanson for fourth.

Out front, Iverson grew his lead to more than a second with 12 laps left on the board, while Hartung, Hillman, Halopka, and Hanson remained in the top five.

At the halfway point, Iverson’s lead ahead of Hartung was more than 2 seconds, while the battle for fourth behind Hillman really heated up between Hanson, who moved back past Halopka for fourth, and Cain. Hanson and Halopka continued to dice back and forth for the spot, with Cain right on their heels.

With two to go, Iverson got into the wall in turn four and down the frontstretch, spinning down into turn one on his own. The field regrouped under yellow.

Hartung inherited the lead for the restart, with Halopka and Hillman right behind in row two. He drove off a bit from Hillman, while Halopka came under pressure again from Hanson and Cain for fourth. With one lap to go, Hartung was steady out front and he drove to the victory ahead of Hillman, Halopka, Cain and Cory Crapser in the top five.

Jesse Glenz (Jalen Kitchner Photo)

In the WISSOTA Late Models, Lance Hofer and John Kaanta led the field to the green flag, with Dan Bargender and Jesse Glenz in row two. Hofer led lap one, as Kaanta held second, and Bargender and Glenz were side by side for third. Glenz shook free of Bargender, made the pass to the inside of Kaanta down the backstretch, and slid up in front of Hofer in turn four to gain the lead, completing lap two.

Glenz moved out to a good lead ahead of a side-by-side battle for second between Hofer and Kaanta, and a side-by-side battle for fourth between Bargender and A.J. Diemel. Kaanta secured second, before a caution for Aaron Wilson regrouped the field.

Following the restart, Glenz drove off in the top spot, while Hofer and Kaanta continued their war for second. Diemel, using the low side, moved past Kaanta and then did the same to Hofer into second. Bargender was overtaken by Giossi with five laps complete for fifth.

Out front, Glenz’s lead was slightly more than 3 seconds ahead of Diemel, while Hofer and Kaanta continued to fight for third, just ahead of Giossi. Hofer was able to move away from Kaanta, as Kaanta then battled for fifth with Giossi.

Glenz began to encounter lapped traffic, as Diemel began to close with nine laps remaining. Hofer, Kaanta, and Giossi held top five spots.

As Glenz and Diemel continued to navigate heavy lapped traffic out front, Kaanta was third, Giossi fourth and 16th-starter Sam Mars appeared in the top five. Mars drove by Giossi one lap later, and grabbed third in the next turn.

Glenz escaped the final laps through lapped traffic unscathed, taking the victory ahead of Diemel, Mars, Giossi and Kaanta in the top five.
