Arment, Stearns, Nelson, Zabel & Broksieck top first night of Andy Daly Memorial at Brown County

ABERDEEN, SD (July 10) - The third annual Andy Daly Memorial kicked off Friday at Brown County Speedway with a huge field of 128 cars in the pit area for the two-day event. The area was hit by a decent amount of rain throughout the week, but the track crew worked hard to get the track in shape and it turned out to be good.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Maria Broksieck, Dawson Zabel, Mike Stearns, Trevor Nelson and Kent Arment.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were first to take the speedway, with another good field of 20 drivers on hand. Chris Serr and Kyle Bertram sat on the front row, and Serr grabbed the lead early.

Serr led the opening laps until Maria Broksieck moved in and eventually took the top spot on lap seven. A caution struck a lap later.

On the restart, Bertram used the top side to start battling Broksieck hard, and peaked to her outside multiple times. As Bertram had a run, Broksieck moved up top and Bertram crossed her over, looking to take the lead, but the yellow flag flew with only four to go.

On the final restart, Bertram gave chase to Broksieck, but could not build enough momentum. Broksieck held on to win her second feature race of 2026 at BCS. Bertram, Serr, 11th-starter Jayden Bogh and Andy Rossow completed the top five.

Dawson Zabel (Track Photo)

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out next with 20 drivers on hand, led to green by Cole Neset and Lane Johnson. Neset was the early leader and he slowly rolled the bottom and opened up a lead. Johnson battled with Nathan Jager, Dawson Zabel and Todd Stark for second.

The first caution struck on lap six. Johnson took advantage along the top side and took the lead following the restart, as Zabel and Stark followed suit to take over second and third place, respectively.

It was a three-horse race upfront among Johnson, Zabel and Stark, who all used the top side of the raceway. Zabel started to peek underneath Johnson and it paid off with seven to go; Johnson bobbled on the cushion and this allowed Zabel to slide him to take the point.

Caution struck on lap 16, and that reracked the field. Stark began to chase Zabel around the cushion. As the two raced each other, Jason Grimes moved into third.

Grimes tracked down Stark, but was not able to get around him as Zabel pulled away from everyone to take another win - his third in a row at BCS and fourth overall in 2026.

Ninth-starter Stark was second, Grimes was third, Neset was fourth and Nathan Jager rounded out the top five.

Mike Stearns (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Modifieds came out next with 11 drivers on hand. Eric Edwards and Mike Stearns brought the field to green with Stearns grabbing the early lead in what became a caution-filled race.

The first caution struck on lap two, and following the restart Stearns again took the lead with Kent Arment rolling into second. Stearns opened up a lead to Arment and was in lapped traffic with 15 to go. With the top being the dominant lane on the track, Arment began to close in on Stearns. Caution struck again, however, with 13 to go.

After the restart it was mayhem with the field ticking off one lap at a time as cautions came in a frenzy. As the field readied for a restart with four to go, the call was made the next flag was going to end the race. With two to go the caution flag struck for the final time and the race was called official. Stearns dominated the event to score his third win of the year at BCS.

Tony Konold improved five spots to second at the finish, Arment was third, Nate Heinrich was fourth and Edwards completed the top five.

Trevor Nelson (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks came out for their main event with 25 drivers on hand. Stewart Schipke and Jay Hedtke sat on the front row, but neither led lap one - Trevor Nelson passed both of them from third to lead the opening lap. The pesky caution flag struck with 17 to go, regrouping the field.

On the restart, Andrew Hedtke took over second and gave chase to the No. 71 machine.

As Nelson began to reel in the back of the field, caution struck again with 10 to go.

On what was the final restart, Hedtke rolled the bottom while Nelson was up top and the two battled side by side for multiple laps. The leaders caught lapped traffic with four to go. Though it appeared Hedtke had a run to take the lead from Nelson, a lapped car held Hedtke up as the lapper rolled the bottom.

Nelson gladly used the lapped car as a pick and went on to win his sixth race at BCS this season.

Hedtke, Jay Hedtke, Dominique Menzia, and Schipke rounded out the top five.

There was movement throughout the field, as Brad Kopecky raced forward 12 spots, and Derek Zastrow and William Lund both advanced 11 spots.

Kent Arment (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Late Model class was the final WISSOTA-sanctioned feature of the night, with 21 drivers on hand. Konnor Sperle and Collin Compson led the field to green and Sperle had the early advantage. The lead was cut short by Mike Stearns, however, as he used the cushion to take the top spot on lap four.

A lap later, Stearns’ quick pace put him into lapped traffic. As he began to maneuver traffic, the lone caution flag struck with 18 laps left.

On the restart, Stearns drove away from the field as Arment moved into second and began to chase down the No. 24S machine.

As the lead duo set a fast pace they were in lapped traffic once again with 14 to go. Arment closed in and maneuvered through traffic as well as Stearns did.

With eight to go the leaders were in heavy lapped traffic; Stearns bobbled off the top of turn four coming to five to go. Arment inherited the lead and checked out on the rest of the field as Stearns kept second. Arment held on to win his second feature of the year at BCS. Compson, Cole Searing and Chad Becker completed the top five.

Trevor Anderson was the hard charger, and improved 11 spots for a sixth-place finish.

The INEX Legends were on hand with 31 drivers in the pit area. Their feature race went flag to flag with Preston Martin using the high side of the track all race long to score the win. It was the third of the year for him at BCS.
