Anderson, Stearns & Bogh get first ‘26 Casino wins while Nichols & Tirrel add to their track totals

By Tony Steuck

WATERTOWN, SD (July 12) - Three drivers earned their first wins of the season at Casino Speedway on Sunday. Trevor Anderson, Mike Stearns, and Jayden Bogh each scored their first victories of the year at the speedway, while Tommy Nichols and Dylan Tirrel were repeat winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action.

Kyle Bertram outduelled Jaren Puhlman on the opening lap to set the early pace in the 20-lap WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Bertram maintained a slim lead until Puhlman fought back and made a bid for the top spot on lap five—the two made contact, Bertram turned sideways and the yellow waved. Puhlman was sent to the tail for the restart.

Bertram remained the leader after the restart, but Jayden Bogh and Maria Broksieck were on his heels as the halfway mark approached. Bogh looked to the outside of the leader, and after a couple laps of door-to-door racing, Bogh edged ahead and led lap 12 at the line.

Bogh opened a narrow margin while Broksieck challenged Bertram for the second spot. A late caution flag fell with three laps to go, and Broksieck stole second from Bertram after the restart. She went to work on the leader, but a caution fell again when Bertram spun a lap later. Bogh held off Broksieck after another later restart and collected his first win of the season in Watertown. Broksieck was second ahead of Jason Marko, Andy Rossow and Adam Dehne.

Mike Stearns (Track Photo)

Stearns pulled away quickly in the 15-lap WISSOTA Modified main event while the rest of the field was involved in a wild scramble for second. The caution waved on the second lap for an altercation in turn one.

Stearns set sail after the restart, and Tony Konold applied pressure to Andy Brooker in the race for second; Konold claimed the spot on lap three and set off to catch Stearns. The leader continued to increase his advantage until Brooker slowed to a stop to bring out a caution with eight laps remaining.

Konold was unable to capitalize on the restart, and Stearns pulled away again. He raced to his first win of the season in Watertown, with Konold and Jim Hanley as the final finishers.

Tommy Nichols (Track Photo)

Nichols started on the pole of the 20-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature event and grabbed the lead off of the initial start. Todd Stark moved into second and stayed close to the leader in the opening laps. Nichols opened a small margin in the opening half of the race before the first caution with 11 laps recorded.

Nichols edged away from Stark again after the restart, and both drivers separated from Joel Waba in third. Stark stayed within a few car lengths of the leader, but that was as close as he could get. Nichols earned his second win of the season ahead of Stark, Waba, Darren Engesser and Dakota Larsen.

Trevor Anderson (Track Photo)

Anderson started on the pole of the 15-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature, and shed Thomas Weisgram for the lead in turn two. Mike Stearns looked under Weisgram for second, but settled into third in the early stages. Anderson slipped away a little bit before the caution waved on lap seven.

Stearns raced to second after the restart, but Weisgram continued to challenge him for the position. After a few laps, Weisgram regained second, and looked to erase the 1.5 second deficit to the leader. Anderson, however, maintained that advantage to the checkers for his first win of the season at the oval. Weisgram was second ahead of Stearns, Jayson Good and Trevor Walsh.

Dylan Tirrel (Track Photo)

Jesse Lindner grabbed the early lead in the WISSOTA Hornet main event, but his run at the front came to an end a few laps in with mechanical trouble. Adam VanDerostyne inherited the lead, while Tirrel chased him at the head of the pack. As the laps wore on, Tirrel applied heavy pressure to the leader, looking for an opening. A caution with four to go temporarily slowed the battle for the win.

Tirrel had a better restart, raced to the outside of VanDerostyne in turns one and two, and secured the lead in the next set of turns. Tirrel earned his second win of the season ahead of VanDerostyne, Bradley Rossow, Matthew Moes and Kris Eide.
