Mass, Saurer, Randt, Riley & Rohner race their way to wins Friday at I-94 Speedway
By Ron Krog
FERGUS FALLS, MN (July 10) - Racing resumed Friday night at I-94 emr Speedway. It was a nice evening and a great field of cars hit the pits for a night of action-packed WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing.
Winners in WISSOTA-sanctioned action included Eric Riley, Landyn Randt, Jeff Rohner, Dave Mass and Travis Saurer.
Riley quickly moved from fourth into the lead of the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. A lap later Levi Randt moved into second with Kyle Dykhoff in third. As the race went on, Dykhoff had tough luck and broke down, knocking him out of the race.
The chase was on at the front, but Riley was fast and picked up the win, followed by Randt, Maverick Janssen, 14th-starter Joe Arndt and Josh Lawson in the top five.

A pair of young racers held the front row of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature, including Nick Preston and Maddie Swenson. After a first lap spin by Swenson, Preston led out front, with pressure coming from Aaron Michel. Michel was able to get by Preston and take the lead before the first lap was completed, followed by Nate Reinke and Ron Saurer in the top three. Mike Nichols was fourth, and Randt moved into fifth with five laps completed.
Following a caution with 13 to go, the battle was on between Michel and Ron Saurer. Saurer moved alongside Michel with Mike Nichols now in third just ahead of Reinke; Michel moved out to a slight advantage as Saurer tried desperately to keep Nichols and Reinke at bay.
With seven to go, the race for second heated up even further; Nichols tried every which way to get by Saurer, and contact was made in turns one and two. Nichols fell off the pace while out front Reinke drove by Saurer along the backstretch, and heavy contact was then made between Saurer and Randt; Saurer spun and Randt retained his position.
Back under green, Michel, Reinke and Randt battled back and forth for the top spot. As they headed into turn three and four, Randt scooted past Reinke and slid Michel for the lead; Michel held on and was steady out front as Reinke regained second briefly before Randt duplicated his prior lap’s effort in turns three and four and retook second from Reinke.
The final lap was a thriller, as Randt took advantage of a Michel bobble along the high line in turn two, moved the lead for good, and scored the hard-fought win, followed by Michel and Nate Reinke in the top three. Ninth-starter Scott Oeltjen and 16th-starter Jamie Norman completed the top five.
Dave Mass (Track Photo)
A good-sized field of 18 WISSOTA Late Models rolled out next for their 25-lap feature. Following a yellow on the first lap for a massive wreck that occurred due to four-wide contact down the frontstretch, Shawn Meyer looked strong along the top side, chased hard by Blake Boelens and Travis Robertson. With seven laps scored, Dave Mass moved into third past Robertson, with Travis Saurer driving into fourth five laps later.
Following another caution with 10 laps to go, and two ensuing cautions on the restart, Mass moved into second behind Meyer, with Saurer working into third. Mass took the lead from Meyer when he hit the wall, and Saurer then moved in to challenge Meyer along the bottom. With six to go Meyer was hung up on the wall once again, allowing Saurer to drive by for second.
Two laps later Mass continued to lead along the high side, with Saurer to his inside. Mass changed up his line and protected the bottom in turn one, allowing him to escape with the lead. Mass added to his advantage in the final two laps and took the win ahead of Saurer, Meyer, Boelens and Ben Wolden.

Next up were the WISSOTA Modifieds. A 14-car field took the green for 20 laps. Saurer used his front row starting spot to his advantage, taking the lead ahead of Joe Thomas, who held second and fought hard with Dusty Bitzan and Landon Atkinson right behind him - two very fast race cars battling hard for third.
The race continued on and Saurer kept everyone at bay. He took the victory ahead of Thomas, who hung on for second. Atkinson was third, 10th-starter Justin Froemming finished fourth, while Bryce Sward was fifth.
Jeff Rohner (Track Photo)
The WISSOTA Hornets had two features. In the regular feature Zander Zuehlsdorf and Jeff Rohner were side by side for the top spot. Emma Nelson had a strong run, getting alongside Rohner a couple times. Rohner grabbed the eventual win, followed by Zuehlsdorf, Nelson, Eli Green and Chase Pourrier in the top five.
The makeup feature from earlier this season was led early by Rohner, but with five laps scored Emma Nelson passed Rohner and took over out front.
The following lap, though, Rohner came right back and regained the lead. Rohner raced on and picked up his second win of the night, followed by Emma Nelson and Christian Kast in the top three.
Trevor Walsh garnered the victory in the Gen X Late Models.
