Eischens, Martini, Tourville, Vogel, Randt & Bruss are KRA trophy collectors on Thursday

By Ron Krog

WILLMAR, MN (July 9) - KRA Speedway hosted a regular night of racing on a beautiful summer evening in Willmar, with an equally nice field of race cars in the pits.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Don Eischens, Eric Martini, Keith Tourville, Justin Vogel, Connor Bruss, and Landyn Randt.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks had two features to run on Thursday, including the makeup from the July 2 program.

Levi Randt was the early leader in the regular feature, before Justin Vogel snuck by a couple of laps in and brought Keith Tourville into second with him. Randt’s ride then broke down, so he headed to the pits. Shortly after a huge wreck led to another caution and lengthy cleanup.

Tourville used the ensuing restart to take the lead, as Vogel came under pressure from Mike Jans for second. Jans took the spot before the halfway point, while Tourville continued to add to his advantage in the lead.

At the checkered flag, Tourville took the win ahead of Jans, Vogel, Zachary Flickinger and Jordan Frericks in the top five.

Vogel was the early leader in the makeup feature, as behind him it was an all-out war for the remaining top five spots. Jans shook out into second, and Tourville took third from Cody Hatch after Hatch drifted too high in turn four.

Jans then came under heavy pressure from Tourville and with 13 laps to go, and Tourville passed Jans for second. Vogel had a commanding lead at the time and even after a late-race caution, Tourville could not supplant Vogel. Vogel hung on and delivered the victory. Tourville, Joe Martin, Jans and Zachary Flickinger completed the top five.

Jason Vejtruba and Randt led the field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods to the green flag, with Randt strong out front early on. It was a good battle behind him for second between Vejtruba and Chance Kodet. Kodet stayed right on the back side of Vejtruba the whole race.

In the end, Randt held on to pick up the feature win. Vejtruba did a nice job running in second, followed by Kodet behind him with a good run in third. Brady Larson and Jett Lindgren were top-five finishers.

In the WISSOTA Mod Fours, Connor Bruss - who had won here earlier this season - picked up the lead early and kept everybody at bay. It looked like Dustin Holtquist and Tyler Larson were going to run him down, but Bruss was just too good and garnered the win, followed by Holtquist, Larson, Dean Larson and Andrew Christenson in the top five.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to green by Karter Reents and Jason Hobbs. Early on, Eric Martini made the pass, took the lead, and he drove off to the win. Reents ran second, while a great battle for third among Hobbs, Shawn Fernkes and Zach Schultz ended with Schultz taking the spot. Hobbs and Fernkes rounded out the top five.

Brian Haben in his Ford-powered WISSOTA Modified and Don Eischens in his Chevy-powered open-wheeler started the feature side by side. Eischens powered into the lead, and he did not let this one get away from him. As he pulled out front, Haben ran a strong second with heavy pressure from Jake Knapper in the closing stages. Eischens picked up the win ahead of Haben, Knapper, Eric Lamm and Ryan Flaten in the top five.

In the Pure Stock feature, Ashton Martin took home his second win of the season with a very good run.

The Hornet feature may have been light on numbers, but it was a great battle. They went back and forth four or five times for the lead and at the checkered flag, Tucker Fredeen picked up his first-ever win in the class at KRA Speedway.
