BEMIDJI, MN (June 7) - Warm and windy conditions for the early heat races developed into a beautiful, comfortable night for the feature races at Bemidji Speedway on Sunday for “Shooting Star” night at the races. Seven classes were in action, with the WISSOTA Street Stocks having the night off. A total of 75 cars made the night's races exciting.

Six drivers - Jeff Reed, Dalton Carlson, Michael Blevins, Sr., Ashton Schwinn, Austin Carlson, and Chase Golliet - scored victories in WISSOTA action on Sunday night.

The first of seven feature races brought the WISSOTA Pure Stocks on track, with Nate Zanter on the pole and Aaron Bitker to his right. Zanter powered to the lead with Caylyn Binkley and Bitker close behind.

Following a caution and a restart it was all Austin Carlson, as he charged forward from his fourth row starting position into fourth. He kept on the gas from there and passed high and low before racing inside to pass both Bitker and Binkley for second. A couple laps later he drove low once again in turn three to take the lead. The caution was waved once again for a loose tire on the track.

When racing resumed Carlson made the pass for the lead and a clean sweep of the night. Caylyn Binkley ran an inspired race to take second, ahead of Billy Binkley, Nate Zanter, and Mason Smith.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next on track led by Carter Matthews and Mike Blevins. After one lap, Blevins took the lead with Landon Gross and Josh Beaulieu in the top three and Matthews close behind. An excellent side-by-side duel developed as Gross dropped back a couple of spots and Cejay LaValley challenged Gross for a top five spot. Gross raced low in turn four and gained fourth, as Matthews returned to the top three.

A caution slowed the racing for a restart with Blevins followed by Beaulieu and Matthews. Matthews had a great restart, powered into second and began a chase Blevins. Blevins held his line and picked up the feature win, ahead of Matthews, Beaulieu, Gross, and Darrin Lawler in the top five.

Chase Golliet (Lisa Rhen Photo)

Chad Reller and Chase Golliet led the WISSOTA Hornets to the green flag with Golliet racing high in turn two into the lead with a pair of No. 28s right behind him in Reller and Logan Delaney, who raced side by side for the runner-up position. Golliet created a large lead over the field, as William Lange charged up from his fourth row starting position and was on the move making passes on both Delaney and Reller to take second as Golliet took the feature win. Lange, Delaney, Reller and Christian Kast completed the top five.

Ashton Schwinn (Lisa Rhen Photo)

The WISSOTA Mod Four feature was led to green by Brooke Erickson on the pole and Ashton Schwinn to her right. Erickson looked fast and powered to the early lead with Schwinn and Dexyn Habraken trailing. Schwinn looked low in turns three and four, but Erickson held her line and the lead. Looking ahead from his third row start, former Mod Four National Champion Dean Larson was on the move up into fourth.

Erickson and Schwinn raced side by side for the lead with Erickson showing excellent control, but Schwinn found the line he needed and took the lead. Erickson fought her way back, but a caution in turn four slowed the race for a restart, and Schwinn returned to the lead. Schwinn took the clean sweep victory over a very determined Erickson. Habraken, Conrad Schwinn and Larson completed the top five.

Dalton Carlson (Lisa Rhen Photo)

The field of WISSOTA Super Stocks roared on track led by Brandon Bahr on the pole and Dalton Carlson to his right. Carlson blasted to the lead in turn one with Bahr on his tail and Cameron Labelle third. A great battle for fourth developed among Alexa Gross, Justin Barsness and Dylan Nelson. Nelson eventually gained fourth and then moved up to claim third. Labelle raced inside to beat Bahr for second. Carlson won, once again in clean sweep fashion, ahead of Labelle, Nelson, Gross and Bahr in the top five.

The mighty WISSOTA Modifieds put on a great show for fans Sunday. Jeff Reed was on the pole and Josh Beaulieu was to his right. Lap one was a three-wide battle for the lead among Reed, Beaulieu and Devyn Weleski, and then Doyle Erickson joined the mix as he passed Weleski for third. Starting dead last after arriving late, Tyler Kaeter raced up into fifth and then fourth, but the leaders had a huge advantage over the field. Kaeter continued his assault, passing Erickson for third after a side-by-side race in turns one and two. Kaeter was gaining on Beaulieu and Reed, and racing down low Kaeter passed Beaulieu for second and looked ahead for the leader Reed.

During the last lap coming out of turn four, Kaeter made the pass to a standing and cheering crowd to beat Reed to the finish line in dramatic and exciting fashion. In tech inspection, however, he was declared too light and disqualified. Reed was declared the feature winner ahead of Beaulieu, Erickson, and Weleski trailing.

Sixteen Bemidji Mini Stocks rolled on track led by Nick McCann and Hayden Engen. McCann quickly raced to the lead, and kept out front for 12 laps to take the checkered flag ahead of seventh-starter Conrad Schwinn, eight-starter Troy Foster, 14th-starter Cameron Schwinn and 11th-starter Karlie Feda.

During intermission, the pre-season Roth RV Car Show winners were announced and winners included Logan Delaney in the Mini Stocks, Aiden Kessler in the Hornets, Kade Leeper in the Pure Stocks, Ashton Schwinn in the Mod Fours, Alexa Gross in the Super Stocks, CeJay LaValley in the Midwest Modifieds, Doug Van Mill in the Street Stocks and Devyn Weleski in the Modifieds.
