Molitor scores Midwest Mod win while Pierce posts WoO Late Model win at Ogilvie Raceway
By Tami Jo Kuehn
OGILVIE, MN (June 22) - After a one-day break, Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway was back in action for a night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action featuring the World of Outlaw Late Models. The night featured great side-by-side position-swapping action by both classes of cars, and at the end of the night, Jake Molitor won in WISSOTA-sanctioned action, while Bobby Pierce was victorious in the World of Outlaws main.
A solid field of 30 WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds signed in to battle on a beautiful Monday night. Molitor and Joe Swearingen led the racers to green and Molitor grabbed the immediate lead. Devin Fouquette and Jason VandeKamp battled door to door for second while others raced two and three-wide around the 3/8ths-mile oval. VandeKamp secured second and looked ahead to Molitor. Molitor led the charge through slower traffic, weaving his way through. Laps passed quickly and VandeKamp began to close the gap to Molitor, however Molitor’s No. 9M was the best on the track as he took the win. VandeKamp finished second ahead of Jason Miller, Fouquette and Swearingen in the top five.
The roar of the World of Outlaw Late Models rattled the stands as 24 of the best drivers in the country took their positions around Big O with Pierce and Jonathan Davenport on row one. As the green waved, Davenport shot in the lead with Pierce and Tyler Erb in tow. Pierce reeled in Davenport as he worked the high line and shot by Davenport. Davenport answered back, sliding past the No. 32. Davenport and Pierce swapped the top point lap after lap as slower traffic quickly came into play. The front duo continued to battle when Drake Troutman suffered a mechanical issue and the yellow waved.
As the race resumed, Davenport, Pierce and Nick Hoffman were three wide into the turn, and Davenport scuffed the track wall and suffered cosmetic damage. Another caution was triggered and Hoffman took his place in the lead point. Hoffman sped away when the green dropped while Pierce held second. Pierce worked the low groove and raced side by side with Hoffman in the turns, when another caution was triggered for debris. After a couple restarts, Pierce was back in command with Hoffman and Ryan Gustin at his bumper. Pierce, Hoffman and Gustin went three-wide into the turn one final time, as Pierce emerged in the lead. Hoffman and Gustin battled for second for a moment, until drivers settled into positions over the final laps. Pierce snagged the double checkers and rolled into victory lane. Hoffman finished second with Gustin, Tyler Erb and Trey Mills finishing in the top five.
