Bohlman, Koch, VandeKamp, Pogones & Tramm topple feature fields Friday at Princeton Speedway
By Tami Jo Kuehn
PRINCETON, MN (June 26) - Friday Night was Meet the Drivers night at Princeton Speedway. Kids of all ages were invited down on the race surface at intermission for treats, photos, fun and even pizza.
Beautiful sunny skies greeted fans and drivers, and winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action at the end of the program included Adam Bohlman, Dexton Koch, Jason VandeKamp, Tommy Pogones, and Rowan Tramm.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks were first on the night’s agenda with Jeff Ekdahl and Pogones leading the field to green from row one. Pogones claimed the lead at the end of lap one, as Lucas Boyce and Kyle Howland held top three spots. A caution with just two laps to go did not faze Pogones, as he took the feature win. Howland, Boyce, Ekdahl and Braedyn Fleck rounded out the top five.
Dexton Koch (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
A quick caution reset the WISSOTA Super Stock field, but as the race resumed, Koch was in command. Dylan Kromschroeder slid into second with Dylan Nelson in third.
The top racers were in lapped traffic as Nelson and Kromschroeder raced door to door for second. Nelson and Kromschroeder were on Koch’s bumper after another caution slowed the pack, and as the battle heated up, another caution occurred. Nelson applied pressure during the final laps, but settled for second as Koch took his No. 78K to victory lane. Kromschroeder, Dustin Nelson and Jeff Frey were top-five finishers.
Adam Bohlman (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Travis Schulte and Adam Bohlman led the field to green. Schulte, Bohlman and Zach Benson were nearly three wide as the race began and Bohlman emerged with the lead. Schulte held second as others raced three-wide for top spots.
Bohlman continued to lead with Schulte close, and Schulte moved alongside Bohlman for first. The race was half complete with the top two in a battle as the yellow flag slowed the racers.
Schulte dove alongside Bohlman when the race resumed, with Mike Stearns in a close third. Bohlman continued to edge out the lead, but Schulte remained within an arm’s reach as the final laps were recorded. Schulte, Stearns, Joseph Thomas and Brennan Gave earned spots two through five while Bohlman took the checkers.
Rowan Tramm (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
Connor Bruss pulled ahead in the WISSOTA Mod Four feature as Rowan Tramm, Ashton Schwinn and Andrew Christenson raced three wide for second. Schwinn took the point and looked ahead and challenged Bruss for the lead, but Bruss held off the competition.
Bruss led the racers back to green following a caution, and Schwinn remained glued to his bumper as laps wound down. With two laps to go, a caution was triggered, and when the drivers went green contact occurred and cars scattered.
The race resumed with two laps remaining on the board, and Tramm challenged Bruss for the lead. Tramm edged out into the lead position during the final couple laps and took the win. Bruss, Christenson, Thomas Burgard and Dexyn Habraken completed the top five.
Jason VandeKamp (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds closed out the night’s program and Mason Bistodeau snagged the early lead. Kris Macko ran second with Devin Fouquette, Tate Kostreba and Jason VandeKamp three wide for third. Macko ran the high line and raced alongside Bistodeau in the turns, and VandeKamp and Fouquette challenged Macko. Fouquette moved forward and took the lead over Bistodeau, until the yellow waved and slowed the drivers.
Drivers were sorted with Fouquette alone on the restart, and when the race resumed, Fouquette caught a rut on the track and cars collided. Bistodeau was back in command on the restart with VandeKamp in a close second. VandeKamp made the pass for first with five to go and did not look back the remaining laps. He took the win ahead of Bistodeau, Dustin Nelson, Macko and Chance Kodet in the top five.
Jeff Hass grabbed his first feature win at Princeton in the Crown Vics ahead of Marcus Ammerman, Daryl Harth, Wayne Nelson and Joe Strandlien in the top five.
