Weight sweeps Midwest Mod action at Sheridan, takes 10 grand for winning caution-free 40 lapper

SHERIDAN, WY (June 26-27) - Brennon Weight swept WISSOTA Midwest Modified competition at Sheridan Speedway over the weekend, winning in action Friday night and taking home the huge $10,000 check once again after 40 caution-free laps of the Summer Showdown on Saturday.

Troy Leiker was the early leader in Saturday’s main event, with Weight shuffled back into second, Lucas Rodin and Tony Leiker side by side for third, and Jake Smith in fifth.

During the next couple of laps Tony drove into third, with Smith getting by Rodin to fourth. He then moved in to challenge Leiker, as they raced side by side, sliding each other back and forth for the third spot. This continued for several laps, with several sliders nearing breath-holding territory.

Out front Weight had whittled away at Troy Leiker’s lead, as Smith supplanted Tony for third. Rodin also got past for fourth.

The lead duo continued to race door to door with each other for several laps before Weight took the lead on lap 12, as they began to work their way through heavy lapped traffic just ahead.

Behind Weight, the remaining top four drivers continued to exchange positions while racing through backmarkers consuming all lanes of the track. With 17 laps left on the board, they were three wide for third among Smith, Rodin and lapped traffic mixed in for good measure. Tony Leiker then hit an infield tire and took his ride to the infield; the race stayed under green.

Weight’s lead with 10 to go was nearly 2 seconds, while Smith and Troy Leiker had a moment of contact in the war for second, with Rodin nipping at their heels. Rodin drove by Smith to third, and then began to heavily challenge Troy for second with just two to go.

Out front the checkered flag flew for Weight, while Troy Leiker hung on for second. Rodin was third, Smith was fourth and Nate Reinke completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Mod Fours Friday night, Kyle Hardesty topped the field from the pole, ahead of Tracy Konst, Tristan Torres, Khi Jackson and Russell Brown in the top five.

On Saturday, Brett Konst raced his way forward from the fourth row to take the win. Tracy Konst was second again with Hardesty third, Glenn Asmus fourth and Jackson fifth.
