Berg and Hess handle opening night responsibilities as Sheyenne Speedway opens with new leadership

LISBON, ND (May 26) - New promoters Mike and Kara Hendrickson and Myron Tschakert welcomed a packed grandstands and a solid field of 102 cars into the pits at Sheyenne Speedway Memorial Day Monday for the track’s annual season opener.

The racing was very intense in all classes, and winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Jory Berg and Trey Hess.

A very good field of 24 WISSOTA Midwest Mods hit the track, with Scott Hansen the early leader. Right on his rear bumper was Brennon Weight, and soon Nate Reinke joined in and made it a fierce three-car battle for the lead. Berg came out of nowhere to take to the high side into the lead. Berg fought off Reinke in a great race for the win, as 14th-starter Lucas Rodin advanced to third and 19th-starter Kyle Anderson was fourth. Hansen completed the top five.

The hard charger of the race was Ryan Ost, who drove from 23rd to sixth at the finish.

A nice field of 16 WISSOTA Street Stocks also put on a great show, as Billie Christ and Joe Deede set the pace early in the feature. Christ had a great battle going with Cole Greseth, but Trey Hess continued his strong early start to the season Monday and went to the high side, driving past Greseth and Christ for the lead and the win. Greseth got by Christ for second, with Kasey Ussatis grabbing fourth. Mike Mund rolled from 15th to finish fifth.

Jeff Nelson won over a nice opening night field of 11 Gen X Late Models, in just his fourth night in the car.

The Legends brought in a tremendous field of 31 cars, with Ty Olson charging from 10th to win a very entertaining feature.

The Hobby Stock/Bomber feature was a good one, as Billy Carow fought off several drivers for the win in a race where he lost the lead three times and kept taking it back.

Travis Roush won the Hornet/Short Tracker feature, running down and passing a very fast Hunter Goulet for the win.
