Davis, Simpson, Chernosky, Brauer and Owen score against big fields Wednesday night at Thunder City
THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (May 28) - Jeff Davis, David Simpson, Cole Chernosky, Kolton Brauer and Jesse Owen took home victories in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action Wednesday night in Thunder Bay, as Thunder City Speedway hosted NAPA Auto Parts night.
Brauer headed back north across the border once again this week to gain valuable WISSOTA Street Stock points and it paid off for the Eyota, MN racer. Brauer started inside row three and following an early-race restart, he took the lead a few laps in from Trey Hess. He drove on to grab the checkered flag for his seventh win of his 2025 season, and fourth straight in four appearances over the long weekend and midweek action. Hess was second, Brendan Makkinga was third, Nathan Henny improved four spots to fourth, and front-row starter A.J. Kellar slipped back to fifth at the finish.
In the WISSOTA Hornets, Jesse Owen remained unstoppable. He led the final lap following a late-race caution and drove to the win, ahead of Curtis Oleksuk, Rick Breukelman, Spencer Smith and Selena Owen in the top five.
Reigning WISSOTA Midwest Mod National Champion David Simpson has had a relatively quiet early season in 2025, but that changed Wednesday night. He drove from outside the fourth row at the start of the caution-filled feature, grabbed the lead about lap six following a restart, and drove away to a nearly 8-second advantage at the finish. He took the checkered flag ahead of Joel Macleod, Curtis Stieh, Michael Shalley and Jamie Davis in the top five.

Chernosky led narrowly from the start of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, in a back and forth battle for the first several laps with fellow front-row starter Rick Simpson. He was able to slowly pull away and eventually cruised off to a more than 5-second lead at the finish. Simpson, Shawn Polonoski, Danny Young, and John Garrity were top-five finishers.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Davis started from the front row, taking the lead from polesitter Riley Matthews early in another caution-marred start to a feature, before Matthews used a restart to fight back and led laps four through eight. Davis squeezed to the front about the halfway point and hung on through a final-lap caution and ensuing restart to nip Matthews at the line by .019 seconds for his first victory of the year. Behind Matthews, Joel Cryderman was a close third, 12th-starter Tanner Williamson was fourth and Chernosky completed the top five.
