Gullikson gets the best of Street Stock Tour travelers at Ogilvie and Sabraski topples a trio of feature fields on Saturday

By Tami Jo Kuehn

OGILVIE, MN (June 21) - It was a hot and sweltering Saturday night at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, but the heat did not stop 109 drivers from putting on a show for the fans. The program was sponsored by Coon Rapids Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep, along with J&B Manufactured Homes. The DRC WISSOTA Street Stock Tour highlighted WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, with winners on the night including Landyn Randt, Jim Gullikson, Tony Jenson, and Shane Sabraski - who earned three victories.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks kicked off the night’s feature events, with Max Nelson the early leader. Jake Luark held second, and Sabraski and Chris Wark battled for third. Sabraski took the spot, got past Luark for second, and tracked down Nelson for the lead.

As the laps wore on, Sabraski’s lead grew to nearly 4 seconds and he drove on to victory lane. Nelson, Wark, Russell Kostreba and Dustin Nelson rounded out the top five.

Landyn Randt (Michael Wadsen Photo)

Following an early caution in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature, Landyn Randt was in command of the field ahead of Jason VandeKamp and Wyatt Boyum. As the front of the pack navigated lapped traffic, a car slowed for a mechanical problem and a caution was triggered with three laps to go.

Randt led the racers back to green, and as they headed into turn two, VandeKamp used a slide job to take the top spot from Randt, but Randt crossed him back over to secure the advantage and lead the last two laps for the win. VandeKamp was second, with Wyatt Boyum, Jake Smith and Luke Erlandson in the top five.

Sabraski took the initial lead while Nick Ayotte and Ryan Gierke battled for second in the WISSOTA Modified feature. Gierke secured second while Jody Bellefeuille took over third.

Sabraski was dominant throughout the feature and took his second feature win of the night at the checkered flag. Bellefeuille, Gierke, Landon Atkinson and Brennan Gave were top-five finishers.

Jim Gullikson (Tim Hunt Photo)

A stellar field of 30 cars signed in for the WISSOTA Street Stock Tour, with 24 making the cut for the feature. Nick Traynor and Lucas Boyce brought the drivers to green and racers were immediately three and four wide throughout the field.

Following a caution, Jim Gullikson snuck his way by Kyle Dykhoff for the lead, while three-wide battles filled the track. Gullikson and Dykhoff sat comfortably in first and second, while Andrew Hanson, Cody Kummer and Nick Traynor raced three-wide lap after lap for third. Tommy Pogones’ No. 04 showed flames and the race was halted under the red flag. Pogones was okay as he quickly jumped from his car and the flames were extinguished.

As the race resumed, another red occurred for contact between Cory Dykhoff and Lucas Boyce, with Boyce pinned against the wall.

Gullikson, Hanson and Dykhoff were three wide for first back under green. Another couple cautions slowed the racers, and three-wide battles continued when the field returned to green. Gullikson reclaimed the lead, with Kummer keeping close. Gullikson and Kummer raced door to door until Kummer skidded through the infield, which allowed Gullikson to speed away.

Kummer was left to battle with Hanson for second until contact between the two occurred along the back chute. Hanson’s car rode the wall and was sent into a barrel roll multiple times. The race went red for a third time as emergency and track workers raced over to Hanson. He was okay, climbing out of the car under his own power; the race was called complete. Gullikson was awarded the win, while Hanson was awarded second. Kyle Dykhoff, Levi Randt and Traynor rounded out the top five.

John Kaanta and Adam Ayotte led the KME WISSOTA Late Models to the green, with Ayotte leading the end of lap one ahead of Sabraski and Kaanta. Sabraski rode the rear of Ayotte and maneuvered past for the lead.

Drivers settled into positions and spaced out as Sabraski put drivers down a lap just halfway into the show. The field ran a caution-free event with Sabraski getting his third feature win of the night. Ayotte, Kaanta, Pat Doar and Tyler Peterson rounded out the top five.

Anthony Jenson (Tim Hunt Photo)

The WISSOTA Hornets closed out the night’s race program with Tony Jenson and Nathaniel Kinne on row one. Jenson claimed the early lead with Brady Fosso in second and Randy Jacoboski in third. Brendan Bockwitz, Kinne and Bobie Arnes were nearly three wide for fourth as Fosso closed the gap with Jenson. Fosso kept after Jenson, following him lap after lap for the top spot. Fosso dove low on the track the final lap to try and steal the lead, however Jenson held the point and took the win. Fosso, Arnes, Kinne and Jada Lore were the official top-five finishers after post-race tech was completed.
