BCS roars back to life after a wet week; winner list includes Searing, Konold, Nelson, Stark and Bogh at Aberdeen oval

By Spencer Heupel

ABERDEEN, SD (June 20) - After another rainout last week, Brown County Speedway roared back to life on a hot 100-degree night. A total of 80 drivers checked in, set to do battle in their respective WISSOTA Dirt Track Series classes.

Todd Stark, Trevor Nelson, Jayden Bogh, Tony Konold and Cole Searing were the victors after the final checkered flags fell over the program.

First up were the WISSOTA Street Stocks, with 14 drivers on hand. Maria Broksieck and Corey Moser brought the field to green, with Moser grabbing the early lead. As the field took off, it was not long before Jayden Bogh began to battle with Broksieck for second. Caution struck with only eight laps to go.

Bogh and Broksieck both maneuvered past Moser back under green, with Bogh taking the lead. The lead duo separated themselves from the field and Broksieck started to look to the inside of Bogh in the closing laps. Bogh did not give her an opening, however, and held on to score the win, his second at BCS. Broksieck, Moser, Chris Serr and 13th-starter Kasey Ussatis completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next on track, with 18 drivers on hand. Todd Stark and Kyle Anderson led the field to green, with Stark gaining the early advantage. It was short-lived as caution struck on lap two, with three more cautions falling in the two green flag laps.

Finally the field ticked off consecutive laps, which allowed seventh-starter Dawson Zabel to move into third and battle Anderson for second. Caution then struck again with seven to go.

On what was the final restart, Anderson challenged Stark for the lead, trying every lane he could find. In the end Stark was just too fast for Anderson, scoring his second win at BCS and third victory overall. Anderson, Zabel, Ryan Ost and Luke Johnson rounded out the top five.

Tony Konold (Cody Papke Photo)

The field of 12 WISSOTA Modifieds was led to green by Tony Konold and Lucas Rodin; Konold was the early leader, before Adam Brotherton found a line to his liking and began challenging Konold for the lead during the opening laps; Konold fended him off.

The field was able to maneuver across the whole track, with the top being the preferred line. Dale Ames reeled in Brotherton and began challenging for second before the caution struck with 11 to go.

Ames got by Brotherton following the restart and began tracking down Konold. A few laps later caution struck again, and during the ensuing restart Kent Arment moved into third. Only a few laps later caution struck again.

On the final restart with seven to go, Garrett Gross made a power move from fourth to second and chased Konold. In the closing laps Konold pulled away and scored his first win at BCS this year. Gross, Ames, Stearns and Brotherton completed the top five.

Sixteen WISSOTA Super Stocks readied for their feature next, with Wyatt Schweigert and Dom Menzia setting the pace from the front row. Schweigert grabbed the lead at the drop of the green, but Menzia and Austin Arbogast got to the inside and made it a three-wide battle for the top spot. They raced side by side by side for the opening three laps until Arbogast looped it coming out of turn four.

Following the caution, Menzia jumped to the advantage out front, but it was short-lived; eighth-starter Trevor Nelson blasted to the lead. Nelson put distance on the field, but it disappeared quickly with the fall of another caution.

Back under green Bryson North moved into second and kept pace with Nelson for the first few laps, until Nelson began pulling away. The laps ticked off and Mark Abeln and Stewart Schipke moved into a battle for third until caution struck again with eight to go.

Nelson checked out over the final restart, and Schipke moved to second. Nelson went on to score his second win of the year at BCS and fifth win overall. Schipke, North, Schweigert and Menzia completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models rolled out onto the track with 20 drivers in tow. Kent Arment and Jeromy Thorstenson brought the field to green, with Arment grabbing the initial lead. By lap two, Cole Searing and Mike Stearns had raced into second and third, respectively.

Arment’s quick pace put him in lapped traffic with 20 to go. The leaders were racing through heavy lapped traffic and Arment pushed a little too hard out of turn two five laps later, ending his night and handing the lead to Searing.

With 10 to go, Thomas Weisgram tracked down Stearns and made a move out of turn four, which got Stearns on the frontstretch a bit and dropped him back to fourth behind Josh Skorczewski. One lap later the caution fell with eight to go.

On the restart, Skorczewski went off the top of turn two and the yellow came back out. During the next attempt, Weisgram pulled alongside Searing in a battle for the lead. As the lead duo battled, Chase Gelling snuck to the inside of Stearns to get third.

Searing moved down to the bottom during the final laps to fend off Weisgram’s charge and take the win, his first at BCS since 2023 and his fourth win overall. Weisgram, Gelling, Stearns, and 11th-starter Dustin Arthur were top-five finishers.
