Koch claims Super Stock special at KRA while Flaten flattens Mod men and Brauer beats the Streeter field
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (June 19) - One of the great traveling series that exists in WISSOTA Auto Racing is the Fastlane Northland WISSOTA Super Stock Series. The car counts are always good and the quality of racing is dynamite. The series made a stop at KRA Speedway Thursday night, and at the end of 30 laps Dexton Koch captured the big check.
Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Kolton Brauer and Ryan Flaten.
A great field of 27 WISSOTA Super Stocks hit the track, led to green by Travis Scott and James Trantina. Scott and Trantina fought for the early lead, before cautions scrambled the field. Back under green, Trantina moved into the top spot, before Scott took back the lead nine laps in.
Three laps later Scott continued to lead, followed by Terran Spacek and Dexton Koch close in third, while Alex Myers ran a strong fourth. Koch went to the top of the track and found plenty of speed, as he went by Spacek and Scott to take the lead. Once Koch was out front he pulled away for the victory ahead of Spacek in second, a hard-charging Dylan Nelson in third, Alex Myers in fourth and D.J. Keeler in fifth.
Ryan Flaten (Alex Ostenson Photo)
A solid 15-car field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods was led early on by Justin VanEps, who was filling in for his sister Kailey. Tim Kanten and Jason Vejtruba were having a great battle for second behind him. Ryan Flaten was in a hard-fought battle with Jett Lindgren, and then around lap seven Flaten moved to second.
With four laps left in the race a caution flew; on the restart Flaten passed VanEps for the lead. Two laps later, VanEps broke while in second.
As the checkered flag flew Flaten grabbed the win, followed by Kanten, James Trantina, Justin Bjorklund, and Jason Vejtruba.
Kolton Brauer (Alex Ostenson Photo)
The WISSOTA Street Stocks had a solid 14-car field, led to the green flag by Kolton Brauer and Derek Zieske. Brauer was the early leader ahead of Joe Martin and Kegan Stueve, who were fighting over second. Not far behind Ethan Iiams and Justin Vogel went at it for fourth. Vogel moved into fourth about lap five, and then with eight laps left he made his way into third.
As the laps counted down, Brauer held a firm lead. With five laps left Vogel moved into second and this set up a great battle with Brauer for the lead. The two did not let the crowd down, as they had fans on their feet for the last five laps. Brauer grabbed the win just ahead of Vogel. Martin, Iiams, and Stueve completed the top five.
Colsten Schultz grabbed a nice win in the track’s Pure Stock feature in a very entertaining race.
