Eischens, Schultz, Randt, Tourville and Bruss kick back KRA competition in Thursday night mains

By Ron Krog

WILLMAR, MN (June 18) - After a two-week layoff because of weather, racing finally resumed at KRA Speedway. A nice field of 69 cars thrilled the packed grandstand with a great night of racing. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners Thursday included Don Eischens, Zach Schultz, Landyn Randt, Keith Tourville and Connor Bruss.

To start the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, the front of the field came off turn four in four wide formation. Unfortunately, Joe Martin was tagged in the back end and rolled his car; he was okay.

Justin Vogel and Tourville had the front row for the restart, and they went at it hard for many laps. They were side by side for just about 16 of the 18 laps in this race. Tourville finally was able to hang on and get the win. Levi Randt, WISSOTA national point leader, was right in the thick of the hunt and finished a close third behind Vogel. Zachary Flickinger and Kolton Brauer rounded out the top five.

Next up the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds hit the track with 14 cars on hand. Chance Kodet looked very good as he took the lead and held on before Landyn Randt charged into the lead three laps in. Randt took off, while the battle for second was a good one - Ryan Flaten and Kodet went back and forth for second before Flaten secured the spot. Justin Bjorklund was also in the mix and he slid up and into third, and then took second.

Randt grabbed the checkered flag ahead of Bjorklund, Flaten, eighth-starter Jason Vejtruba and Kodet in the top five.

In the WISSOTA Mod Fours, Bruss started from the front row, engaging in a battle for the lead with Rowan Tramm. Finally Bruss secured the spot, though with about five laps to go he hit a bad spot on the track, was sideways, and second-place runner Tyler Larson actually hit him and straightened him out. Bruss continued on to the victory ahead of Larson, Dean Larson, Jack Post and Travis Bruns.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led early by Andrew Hedtke, who looked strong ahead of Colsten Schultz, who had started on the pole. Colsten was in a tight battle with Jay Hedtke for second.

As they continued on with nine laps to go, eighth-starter Zach Schultz, Colsten’s dad, moved forward to third and caught Colsten. With six laps to go, he passed Colsten for second. On the last lap, he snuck by Hedtke and stole the win in a great finish. Jordan Henkemeyer and Brayden Hedtke completed the top five.

Brian Haben jumped out to a strong early lead in the WISSOTA Modifieds. He and Ryan Flaten raced back and forth for the top spot, as Don Eischens entered the picture. Eischens then moved up and raced into second, and with eight laps to go, he caught Haben, took the lead and drove on to the win. Haben, Jacob Knapper, Justin VanEps and Matt Fester rounded out the top five.

In other action at KRA Thursday, Carter Rice won in the Pure Stocks, and Braxton Schmidt was victorious in the Hornets.
