Smith scores first Street Stock win and Zabel brothers lead the way in open-wheelers Friday at Brown County

By Spencer Heupel

ABERDEEN, SD (June 19) - Another night of high-flying WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action came and went at Brown County Speedway Friday, June 19. There was a good turnout in the pits, with 82 cars checked in.

Trevor Nelson, Tony Smith, Thomas Weisgram, and Dylan and Dawson Zabel were all victorious in their respective WISSOTA classes.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks started the night’s racing action with 18 drivers in the field. Wyatt Brooker and Tony Smith led the field to green and Smith grabbed the early advantage before a caution struck on lap two.

Smith and Brooker opened a gap on the field following the restart, as there was a three-wide battle for third among Chris Serr, Maria Broksieck and Adam Dehne. It lasted until lap five when Serr tried to go from the top to the bottom with cars under him, which caused Dehne to come to a stop and drew another caution. Serr was sent to the rear.

Smith took the point again for the restart, as Broksieck and Jayden Bogh moved by Brooker and Dehne for second and third. As the laps began to run down, Smith and Broksieck were nose to tail on the cushion.

The lead duo opened up a gap to the rest of the field and it looked like Broksieck was starting to find a run in the middle of the track. Just as she was about to make a move, caution struck again with three laps left.

Broksieck looked to the inside of Smith multiple times during the final restart, but Smith hit his marks up top and carried the momentum to the win. Smith’s win was a first of many for him - it was his first-ever win in a WISSOTA Street Stock, his first win ever at BCS, and his first win overall since 2023. Broksieck, Bogh, Clifford Houser and Serr rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were next with 17 drivers on hand. Taylor Schmidt and Jake Wranek set the front row and Schmidt grabbed the early lead.

Caution struck on lap four, and following the restart Schmidt and Todd Stark battled for the top spot. Stark took the lead bringing Dawson Zabel and Kyle Anderson with him. Stark and Zabel began to race away from Anderson as they battled each other for the lead.

As the top two took the white flag, they also caught the tail end of the field. Zabel slipped into the lead in turn one, but out of turn two Stark gained a massive run, which allowed him to send a slider in the final corner. Stark’s monument carried him over the cushion, and allowed Zabel to cross him over and drag race to the line where Zabel won by .084 seconds. It is his second win of the year. Stark, Schmidt, Anderson and Wranek completed the top five.

Dylan Zabel (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Modifieds were next, with only 10 drivers in the pits. Kent Arment and Dylan Zabel brought the field to green and Zabel was the early leader. Zabel checked out early as Mike Stearns moved into second on lap two and set chase after Zabel.

The lone caution of the event struck with eight to go, giving Stearns a shot at Zabel on the restart.

Back under green, Stearns tried to roll the bottom, but there was not enough traction for him to grab. Zabel went on to score the wire-to-wire win for his first victory of 2026. Stearns, Garrett Gross, Nate Heinrich and 10th-starter Eric Edwards completed the top five.

Trevor Nelson (Track Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled onto the speedway with 12 drivers on hand. Austin Arbogast and Robert Schmitt sat on the front row and Arbogast used it to his advantage to take the lead. Trevor Nelson immediately moved in and began to pressure Arbogast to the inside.

The two leaders opened up a gap to the rest of the field as they raced each other. With only eight to go, Nelson finally pounced and took the lead from Arbogast. Nelson then went on cruise control mode to pick up yet another win at BCS.

Arbogast, Stewart Schipke, Mike Rohwedder and Kaden Kampa were top-five finishers.

Thomas Weisgram (Track Photo)

A pair of BCS regulars set the front row of the 20-car WISSOTA Late Model feature - Thomas Weisgram and Dustin Arthur. Weisgram grabbed the initial lead, but caution struck on lap two.

The restart was perfect for Arthur as he railed the top to take the lead from Weisgram. It did not take long for Arthur to catch lapped traffic with 18 to go. Arthur was stymied by a lapped car in his lane, which allowed Weisgram to retake the lead on the bottom.

Traffic was getting heavy, and Josh Skorczewski and Cole Searing moved past Arthur, setting their sights on Weisgram. Weisgram maneuvered traffic well and opened up a straightaway lead on the other leaders. However, caution then struck with only six laps remaining.

On the final restart Skorczewski gave Weisgram everything he could handle, but Weisgram held on to score his first win of 2026. Searing, Arthur and Chad Becker rounded out the top five.

The INEX Legends were on hand with five drivers in attendance. Dusty Mund and T.J. Pfeiffer put on a show as they battled for the win. Mund prevailed to score his second win of the year at BCS.
