Adams trounces two feature fields at Grand Rapids; Provinzino, Sabraski, Smith & Larson also lock up wins
GRAND RAPIDS, MN (June 11) - Blake Adams made it two-for-two Thursday in Grand Rapids Speedway, as the high school student grabbed the wins in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods and Modifieds.
He was joined in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series victory lane by Shane Sabraski in the Super Stocks, Jeff Provinzino in the Late Models, Jake Smith in the Pure Stocks, and Ryker Larson in the Hornets.
Adams and Caley Emerson led the field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods to the green. Adams was the early leader, hitting lapped traffic just a few laps in, as Darrin Lawler shook out into second. A caution for an Emerson spin reset the field under yellow.
Back under green after a failed attempt at the restart, Adams continued to lead with Brennan Schmidt moving into second ahead of Lawler. Dylan Miller was fourth.
After a couple more cautions for spins and contact in the back of the field kept things at a slowed pace.
Adams continued to lead at the halfway point, with Schmidt chipping away at the advantage at times. Adams survived a late-race caution and drove off to the checkered flag in the remaining laps to take the victory ahead of Schmidt, Lawler, 10th-starter Noah McFarlane and 11th-starter Mikey Blevins.
In the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Doug Koski was the early leader as Andy LaBarge, Dalton Carlson and Chaston Finckbone were in a fight for second; Finckbone tapped LaBarge headed into turn four, sending him spinning and bringing out the first caution.
Koski continued to lead under green, ahead of Carlson, Tyler Kintner, LaBarge, Stuart and Sabraski three wide for top-five spots. Sabraski slipped by into third, as Kintner continued to try to hold off Stuart for fourth.
A couple laps later Sabraski drove by Carlson along the low side, and set off after Koski with about 12 laps to go. Sabraski moved in quickly on Koski, getting by with about 10 to go.
From there Sabraski set sail to garner the victory. Koski, Carlson, Stuart and Kintner completed the top five.
Two wily veterans in Harry Hanson and Jeff Provinzino led the WISSOTA Late Models to the green flag. Provinzino had a slim lead as Garrett Masurka spun in turn four.
Back under green, Provinzino led Kevin Burdick, and a stiff battle between Hanson and Zach Wohlers for third. Johnny Broking and Billy Kendall were side by side for fifth.
As the laps continued to click by, Provinzino grew his lead, as Burdick did the same from the rest of the top five. With lapped traffic ahead at the halfway point, Burdick cut in a bit on Provinzino’s lead, but the No. 28 kept him at bay in the final laps to take the checkered flag. Burdick, Hanson, Broking and Wohlers completed the top five.
Adams was the early leader ahead of Kennedy Swan and Sabraski to start the WISSOTA Modified feature. Mervin Castle was fourth, under pressure from Bob Broking for the spot.
The top three were strung out evenly across the track for a few laps, before Sabraski changed his line a bit and began to cut into Swan’s advantage. Farther back, Broking had supplanted Castle for fourth.
Adams began to work through the first backmarker just past the halfway point, as Sabraski narrowed the gap to Swan once again. In the closing two laps, Sabraski used high side momentum in turn three to dip low underneath Swan in turn four and into the lead down the frontstretch for second. Adams remained in command and took his second victory of the evening ahead of Sabraski, Swan, Broking and Castle in the top five.
Jake Smith took the lead from the start and led every lap to take another victory in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, his fourth overall and first of the season in Grand Rapids. He had a little more than half-second lead on Austin Carlson in second. Bob Klein held onto third ahead of 11th-starter Dylan Elhardt and Alex Berg in a side-by-side battle for fourth; Elhardt prevailed for the spot.
McKenna Folstad was the early leader in the WISSOTA Hornet feature, narrowly holding of Tucker Smith for the spot. Behind them, it was side-by-side-by-side for top five spots; Ryker Larson moved into second, Nick Ruzich secured third, and it was a three-way battle for fourth, with Brady Fosso gaining the edge.
Out front it was a three-car battle for the lead among Folstad, Larson and Ruzich; Larson set off into the top spot, as Folstad was second just ahead of Ruzich. Fosso was right behind, using the high side to gain third and then take second from Folstad.
Larson took the victory with his healthy advantage, while Fosso, Folstad, Ruzich and Smith completed the top five.
