In a race to beat the weather at KRA, Eischens, Bawden, Vejtruba, Martin and Larson lock up feature wins
By Ron Krog
WILLMAR, MN (June 5) - With weather in the area all night, the folks at KRA Speedway tried frantically to make sure race fans were able to see the whole show - and other than the last six laps of the Hornet feature, they got it done!
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners on Thursday included Don Eischens, Tommy Bawden, Jason Vejtruba, Joe Martin, and Tyler Larson.
A nice 15-car WISSOTA Street Stock field was led early on by Coltyn Schuler. Soon Derek Zieske took over on lap three, with Joe Martin close by. During lap seven Martin made a slick move to pass Zieske for the lead and never looked back. He grabbed the win, with great racing behind him. Justin Vogel caught Zieske with eight laps left and took over second, and pretty soon Zach Flickinger moved into third, as things got pretty wild at the end. Behind Martin at the checkered flag: Vogel was second, Flickinger was third, Zieske was fourth and Schuler completed the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature was also a good one, as Ryan Flaten jumped out front early. A caution three laps in allowed Jason Vejtruba to steal the lead from Flaten and he was able to keep the field at bay for a nice win. Flaten, Tim Kanten, Justin Bjorklund, and Jett Lindgren were top five finishers.
The 16-lap WISSOTA Mod feature was also pretty entertaining as Jonathan Olmscheid took off to a nice lead, with Justin VanEps running a distant second. Don Eischens caught VanEps with eight to go and passed him for second. He then reeled in Olmscheid and passed him for the lead three laps later as he again proved why he might be the best Modified driver to ever run KRA Speedway. Eischens took the win with Ryan Flaten finishing strong in second and Olmscheid third. Seth Brede and Peter Loecken completed the top five.
A nice field of 12 WISSOTA Mod Fours were led early by Conner Bruss. Red-hot Tyler Larson caught him on lap three, drove by Bruss and never looked back. Larson drove on to the solid win as Bruss was second, Chad Funt was third, Gerrald Nohner was fourth, and Blake Hawker was fifth.
A new face in the WISSOTA Super Stock field this year is Tommy Bawden and he is letting everyone know he is here to stay. Thursday he grabbed his third win of the young season. Shawn Fernkes, who is also having a great season, was second ahead of Zach Schultz, Brayden Hedtke, and Jayden Friauf in the top five.
Young gun Mason Fester got his first-ever win in the Pure Stocks and Christian Kast got a hard-fought win in the Hornet feature.
