After first night of MMN cancelled, Bellefeuille, Jensen, VandeKamp, Holtquist and Lange lock up Saturday features at Ogilvie Raceway

OGILVIE, MN (May 23) - After Friday night’s event was cancelled due to Mother Nature, Saturday kicked off the first night of FYE Motorsports’ 21st annual Minnesota Truck Headquarters Modified Nationals presented by Superior Fuel and Wehrs Machine at Ogilvie Raceway. Seventy-nine drivers checked in for the night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, with winners including Jody Bellefeuille, Joey Jensen, Jason VandeKamp, Dustin Holtquist and William Lange.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds took the clay for the night’s first Minnesota Truck Headquarters feature of the night with David Swearingen and VandeKamp on row one. VandeKamp claimed the immediate lead when the green dropped, with Swearingen and Ryan Savoy in tow. The opening laps passed by quickly until Swearingen coasted to a stop in the turn, ending his night.

VandeKamp remained in command on the restart with Gavin Paull and Savoy behind. VandeKamp led the race from flag to flag and extended his lead to more than 6 seconds, as he took the double checkered flags and the opening win of the night. Paull, Savoy, Jake Smith and Kyle Anderson completed the top five.

Joey Jensen (Mark Anderson Photo)

The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to green by Dexton Koch and Joey Jensen. Koch and Jensen battled at the drop of the green, but a bobble by Jensen allowed Koch to pull away. Jensen chased after Koch and slowly closed the gap as they crossed the halfway mark. Jensen was alongside Koch and after a door-to-door battle, Jensen edged out the lead.

Following a caution with seven laps to go, Jensen brought the drivers back to green and took the eventual win. Koch finished second ahead of Shane Sabraski, Austin Blom and Kyle Copp in the top five.

Jody Bellefeuille (Mark Anderson Photo)

A full field of WISSOTA Modifieds lined the clay surface, and after a four-wide salute, Jody Bellefeuille and Kyle Kirberger brought them to the green. Bellefeuille edged out in the top spot, as drivers raced side by side for position throughout the field. Brandon Copp and Brandon Dollman grabbed second and third, as Bellefeuille stretched his lead and began to navigate lapped traffic.

A couple cautions reset the field, but Bellefeuille remained in command when the race resumed each time. Joey Thomas challenged Copp for second and grabbed the spot with a handful of laps to go. Thomas tried to close the gap the final laps to Bellefeuille, but settled for second as the checkers waved, with Bellefeuille topping the field. Copp, Bryce Sward and Ryan Gierke completed the top five.

Dustin Holtquist (Mark Anderson Photo)

Rowan Tramm and Dustin Holtquist led the WISSOTA Mod Fours to the green for the next feature, but at the close of lap one, the red waved as Austin Goedker rolled on the backstretch. The driver was okay and was attended to, and the remaining competitors were realigned.

Holtquist retook the lead when the green waved, with Tramm and Tyler Larson nose-to-nose for second. Tramm then suddenly retired to the infield. Larson secured second and looked ahead to Holtquist, whose lead exceeded 4 seconds.

A final caution slowed the drivers, but Holtquist remained in command and took the win ahead of Tyler Larson, Bob Holtquist, Thomas Burgard and Josh Madson in the top five.

Will Lange (Mark Anderson Photo)

The final feature of the night belonged to the WISSOTA Hornets. Brady Fosso and William Lange brought the drivers to the green and Fosso edged out the lead. The top four racers remained close as laps passed by, and with five complete, Lange was at Fosso's door. Nathan Penney was close in third as the top drivers put slower drivers down a lap. Lange snagged the lead as he worked through the traffic, but Fosso, Penney and Randy Jacoboski were close behind. Fosso moved alongside Lange, with Penney glued to their bumpers. The top three remained close with the leaders door-to-door as the yellow waved with just two laps to go.

Fosso continued to challenge Lange for the lead back under green. Lange held his line, however, and grabbed the win. Fosso finished second, while Randy Jacoboski, Nathan Penney and Chase Golliet rounded out the top five.
