OGILVIE, MN (May 16) - It was another breezy afternoon at Wagamon’s Ogilvie Raceway, as racers and fans enjoyed a full night of WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, with winners including Ryan Gierke, Dylan Nelson, Jake Smith, Keith Tourville, and Christian Kast.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the night’s features, led to the green flag by Joey Wagamon and Tate Kostreba. After an initial caution, Wagamon claimed the early lead. Nick Montanez, Devin Fouquette and Jake Smith moved in to battle for top-five spots as the laps wore on. Smith challenged Montanez for second, as Montanez moved alongside Wagamon. Montanez slid up to take the lead as Wagamon dropped back. Smith then shot past Montanez for the lead as Montanez, Wagamon and Fouquette ran three wide for second.
Laps passed quickly by and at the checkered flag, Smith took the win. Fouquette, Monantez, Wagamon and Kostreba were top-five finishers.
Keith Tourville (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Keith Tourville sped away when the green waved for the WISSOTA Street Stocks. Lucas Boyce, Jim Gullikson and Trent Keller were three wide for second as Keller dropped back. Gullikson snagged second, but Boyce kept close as Jeff Ekdahl joined in the fight for position.
One caution reset the drivers, but Tourville continued on unfazed, as he remained in command until the checkered flag waved. Gullikson, Ekdahl, Boyce and Braedyn Fleck rounded out the top five.
Ryan Gierke (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Ryan Gierke and Jeremy Nelson battled during the opening lap of the WISSOTA Modified feature, with Clayton Wagamon and Landon Atkinson racing hard for third. Gierke secured the lead and Nelson held second while the fight for position behind them remained close. A caution for debris reset the field.
Back under green, Gierke sped away from the rest of the front-runners. As the race came to a close, Gierke’s lead was nearly 4 seconds as he crossed the finish line. Nelson, Wagamon, Jody Bellefeuille and Atkinson were top-five finishers.
Christian Kast (Michael Wadsen Photo)
The WISSOTA Hornets rolled onto the clay with Nick Ruzich and Tyson DeVente leading the way. The green waved and the Hornets sped off with Randy Jacoboski in the lead. Nikota Larson, Christian Kast and Ruzich raced three-wide for second, and then Larson and Kast set off after Jacoboski. They raced three-wide for first, and although Jacoboski held the lead, his competitors did not back down. Kast pressured Jacoboski once again, and they were door to door lap after lap battling for the top spot.
With a couple laps to go, contact occurred and the yellow waved; Kast was in command on the restart. The top five drivers remained grouped together, and as they came to the checkered flag, contact among the field triggered a final yellow.
Kast brought the drivers back to green one final time, and he held the point to take home the win. Jacoboski, Nathan Penney, Nikota Larson and Nick Ruzich filled out the top five.
Dylan Nelson (Michael Wadsen Photo)
Ryan Kostreba and Dylan Nelson battled for first in the early going of the WISSOTA Super Stock feature. Dylan Kromschroeder sat comfortably in third while the top two remained door to door.
With five laps in the books, Nelson secured and then stretched the lead. He remained tough out front and took the win ahead of Kostreba, Kromschroeder, Denis Czech and Cameron Labelle in the top five.
Zeke Oppegaard stretched his lead in the closing laps of the Crown Vic class and took the victory, his first of the season. Michael Layne, Abe Langager, Wayne Nelson and Jen Machula completed the top five.
