As Brown County wraps up its 2026 calendar, Greseth, Schmidt, North, Thomas and Mass drive away as winners
By Spencer Heupel
ABERDEEN, SD (October 3) -The 2026 finale to the 2026 season for Brown County Speedway took place Saturday, October 3 with the final night of the Winter Nationals. There was a total of 103 cars in the pit area, and all drivers wanted to close their season out on a high note.
Cole Greseth, Taylor Schmidt, Joesph Thomas, Bryson North and Dave Mass were the victors in their respective WISSOTA classes, with all scoring the special snow globe trophies.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off feature action with 15 drivers on hand. Greseth and Jodie Michaelsohn sat on the front row, and Greseth grabbed the lead on the freshly farmed surface as the field strung out on the bottom of the track.
Michaelsohn didn’t let the No. 19G machine out of his sight, as the top two stretched out a lead on the rest of the field. The hammer-down track helped the leaders catch lapped traffic with 12 to go. Greseth maneuvered through the traffic quickly and opened up a straightaway lead to second.
As the laps went by, the battle for third was getting heavy until Andy Rossow broke, drawing the caution flag with nine to go. The ensuing restart was good to Maria Broksieck, as she moved from fourth to second behind Greseth. Caution struck again with seven to go due to a muffler on the track.
Back under green, Greseth led with Broksieck stuck to his bumper. As Broksieck got a run to the inside of Greseth coming to five to go, the caution waved again.
The five-lap shootout was a dandy between the leaders as Broksieck peeked to the inside of Greseth multiple times. Greseth ran a clean final three laps and went on to pick up the win. The win is Greseth’s second at BCS this year. Broksieck, Michaelsohn, Wyatt Brooker and Kasey Ussatis rounded out the top five.
Taylor Schmidt (Track Photo)
WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out with 18 drivers on hand. This feature race turned into a major caution-fest, as it took three cautions for the field to get a lap in and the yellow flag struck immediately after the first lap was counted.
As the field came back to green, Todd Stark led Kyle Anderson and Ryan Ost in the top three. Stark opened a gap to second-place Ost, as Nick Perry moved into the third spot. Track was still very bottom dominant as the field fanned out.
The fifth caution struck with 14 to go, regrouping the field behind Stark. The top four broke away from the field as Stark, Ost, and Taylor Schmidt rolled the bottom while Perry started to run the top.
The front four caught lapped traffic with only five laps left; Ost peeked to the inside of Stark and Schmidt move to the top and began making hay. As they took the white, Stark had to change lines for lapped traffic. As they went into turn three Stark rolled the middle while Schmidt ripped the top side and pulled even as they came to the line. Schmidt just edged out Stark by 0.016 seconds to score the win, which was his first at BCS in 2026. Stark, Perry, Ost and Dusty Peterson rounded out the top five.
Joseph Thomas (Track Photo)
WISSOTA Modifieds came out next with 11 drivers on hand for what was the race of the night. Garrett Gross and Mike Stearns brought the field to green, with Gross sliding to the top spot on the opening lap.
Throughout the field, action was side by side, while Gross opened a lead out front. Stearns caught Gross and look to drive into the lead with 14 to go, but Gross fended him off. With eight to go, 10th-place starter Joseph Thomas moved into third and began to chase down the lead duo.
The leaders were reeling in lapped traffic, which allowed Thomas to close in even faster on the top two. Thomas took second with four to go, and then threw a slider on Gross with two to go to grab the lead.
Gross ran the bottom trying to return the slider, but Thomas was too good and pulled away.
Thomas scored his fourth win in a row at BCS in a caution-free event. Gross, Stearns, Kent Arment and Jason Grimes rounded out the top five.
Bryson North (Track Photo)
Next the WISSOTA Super Stocks were on deck, with 18 drivers set to do battle. Wyatt Schweigert and Bryson North brought the field to green, and Schweigert grabbed the early lead. Schweigert slowly started to pull away from the battle for second until caution struck with 17 to go.
Following the restart, Schweigert opened a lead while North battled with Trevor Nelson for second. Nelson took second from North with 12 to go, and he began to reel in Schweigert but the caution waved with 11 to go.
On the ensuing restart, Nelson ripped the top and took the lead away just prior to the caution flag waving again. Following another restart, Nelson jumped the cushion in turn four, turned back onto the track, and collected multiple drivers. All were able to continue and Nelson went tail for the caution.
Schweigert regained the lead, which he used to his advantage while North battled Kyle Elsen for second. North built up the momentum up top and reeled in Schweigert as they battled side by side with eight to go.
As North went for the lead with six to go, the pesky yellow flag waved again. Schweigert regained the lead and on the restart, hit his marks rolling the bottom. But North got the momentum wound up on the top side and began to close in again.
With three to go, North got a big run out of turn four and took the lead. On the final lap North pushed in turn two, which allowed Schweigert to pull even with North down the backstretch as they came to the line side by side.
As they came to the line North’s momentum on the top carried him to a win by 0.129 seconds. It was North’s third win of the season at BCS. Schweigert, Elsen, Dominique Menzia, and Kenneth Clements came home with top five finishes.
Dave Mass (Track Photo)
The final feature of the 2026 season was for the WISSOTA Late Models, with 26 drivers on hand. Dave Mass and Kent Arment were the front-row starters and they fought side by side for the opening two laps until Arment took control of the lead.
Arment’s quick pace put him in lapped traffic with 20 to go, as Mass and Mike Greseth followed in tow. As Arment was growing his lead through traffic until the caution struck with 18 to go.
For the ensuing restart Arment ripped the top while Mass rolled the bottom, which led to side-by-side battles. With 16 to go, Arment’s momentum up top let him pull away just a bit. Only two laps later, however, Arment was stuck behind a lapped car, which allowed Mass to roll by and drive into the top spot along the bottom side.
With 10 to go, Arment built his momentum back up and regained the lead from Mass in lapped traffic. Arment grew his lead to almost a straightaway until caution struck with six to go after contact between Tyler Peterson and Greseth sent them spinning.
The final restart of the year was a good one; as the field headed into turn one, Mass, Peterson and Arment were three wide for the lead. Mass slid both of them going into turn three but Peterson crossed him over and ran the bottom, which gave Peterson the lead.
Peterson slid Mass in turns three and four one lap later, but Mass crossed him over and took over the lead. Mass and Peterson pulled away from the field and looked to settle it themselves. Mass ripped the top to hold on to score the snow globe. The win for Mass was his first at BCS in a long time. The top five at the finish included Peterson, Lee Grosz, Ty Giles and Jason Strand.
In the INEX Legends, Dusty Mund picked up the win from his 14th starting spot. It was his seventh win of the year at BCS.
