Brown County crowns Broksieck, Anderson, Nelson, Thomas and Arment night one winners at 2026 Winter Nationals
By Spencer Heupel
ABERDEEN, SD (October 2) -The final weekend of 2026 rolled into Brown County Speedway by way of the Winter Nationals. A total of 101 drivers checked in the back gate for the first night of action.
Maria Broksieck, Joseph Thomas, Kyle Anderson, Trevor Nelson and Kent Arment were the victors in their respective WISSOTA Dirt Track Series classes.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked off the night with 13 drivers on hand. Kasey Ussatis and Maria Broksieck sat on the front row, but third-place starter Cole Greseth used the bottom to grab the lead on the opening lap.
Broksieck grabbed the lead with 10 to go as Greseth pulled off a lap later due to mechanical problems. Broksieck opened a lead as Jodie Michaelsohn and Jayden Bogh followed a straightaway behind.
Broksieck’s No. 14 was good anywhere she put it, as she crushed the field to score her third win of the year at BCS. Michaelsohn, Bogh, Ashley Wampler and Wyatt Brooker rounded out the top five.
Kyle Anderson (Track Photo)
WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds rolled out with 22 drivers on hand. Kyle Anderson and Kyle Langland started on the front row, with Anderson leading the opening lap before the caution waved.
Following the restart, Lorin Johnson began battling to Anderson’s inside for the lead until caution struck again with 13 to go. The field was reracked and the caution was thrown again.
The race was cut to eight laps remaining. The restart was good for Nick Perry, who went from fifth to second. Anderson led with Perry in tow, while Johnson and Taylor Schmidt battled for third.
Anderson held his advantage by rolling the bottom and scored his first win at BCS in the Midwest Modified division. Perry, Schmidt, Johnson and Dusty Peterson rounded out the top five.
Joseph Thomas (Track Photo)
WISSOTA Modifieds came out with only nine drivers on hand. Kent Arment and Joesph Thomas were the front-row starters and Thomas had the early advantage.
As Thomas slowly grew his lead the battle for second was on among Arment, Mike Stearns and Bryce Borgen. Arment got away from the battle and reeled in Thomas. With 10 to go Arment was on the bumper of Thomas, as Arment used the bottom lane and looked to pull even as they caught lapped traffic.
As the two leaders danced through traffic it was a good one, as Thomas fended off Arment every time. The No. 9 then jumped the cushion off turn two; he kept second but Thomas checked out and went on to score his third win in a row at BCS. Arment, Borgen, Brock Gronwold and Stearns rounded out the top five.
Trevor Nelson (Track Photo)
The WISSOTA Super Stocks rolled out with 15 drivers setting the field, as Dominique Menzia and Kenneth Clements brought them to green, and Menzia snagged the lead early on. As Menzia led, Clements was under fire from Derek Zastrow in a battle for second.
As the race progressed, Trevor Nelson made a charge up to fourth and caught the battle for second with a run on the very outside of the track. Nelson made it three wide out of turn two but the momentum carried him off the backstretch, and he fell back to sixth.
The first caution struck with 14 to go. Following the restart, Robert Schmitt railed the cushion and began to pull even with Menzia in the fight for the lead. After racing side by side for multiple laps, Menzia regained control.
Meanwhile, Nelson rallied back to second with 10 to go and took control of the lead the following circuit. Just a lap later caution struck again, and the field was regrouped under yellow.
The restart provided a familiar sight from the 2026 season, as Nelson checked out over the field in the No. 71 machine. The caution came back out with three to go but the restart was more of the same, and Nelson went on to win his 11th feature at BCS this season. Menzia, Kyle Elsen, Zastrow and Kody Lehr rounded out the top five.
Kent Arment (Track Photo)
WISSOTA Late Models rounded out the night with 26 drivers on hand. A pair of top-10 national point drivers led the field to green, with Mike Stearns and Dave Mass on the front row.
The opening lap was halted quickly as a multi-car pileup ended four drivers’ race before it really started. When the field retook green, Stearns grabbed the early lead but it wasn’t easy;Mass and Kent Arment were all over the back bumper of Stearn’s machine.
Arment found a lane below Stearns and took the lead on lap four. Mass and Tyler Peterson followed as they moved into second and third, respectively.
As the race progressed, lapped traffic became a factor with 19 to go. Mass pulled even with Arment as they sliced and diced through traffic. Arment got through traffic a bit better than Mass and opened a gap as Peterson caught Mass and they battled for second in lap traffic.
Mass got by two lapped cars, which gave him breathing room from Peterson and allowed him to track down Arment. As the battle for the lead was heating up, the caution struck with five to go.
The final restart was a doozy, as Arment rolled the bottom but Mass got to his inside and Peterson railed the cushion. They were three wide for a lap until Arment got a run out of turn four to regain control. He fended off every challenge in the closing two laps, which allowed him to score his fifth win of the year. Peterson, Mass, Stearns and Josh Skorczewski rounded out the top five.
There was a lot of movement in the race as Dustin Strand, Chase Gelling and Jaden Christ all advanced 15 or more spots through the 25-lap affair.
INEX Legends were also part of the program and had 16 drivers in the pit area. Dusty Mund once again bested the field to score his sixth win of the year at BCS.
