Carlson, Greseth, Blacklance and Wahl whip up on night one rivals at Greenbush Labor Day special

GREENBUSH, MN (September 5) - Night one of the two-day Labor Day special at Greenbush Race Park was held September 5. WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Dustin Wahl, Aaron Blacklance, Cole Greseth, and Austin Carlson.

The WISSOTA Pure Stocks started the night off with Mason Smith and Karen Puschinski on the front row. Once the field took the green flag, the running order was shuffled many times over. Through several cautions and many near mishaps, Austin Carlson began to work his way forward and soon battled for the lead. Jake Smith was also a contender early, but he fell back and finished in fifth.

Kade Leeper had a good run to move up and get within reach of the leaders when the checkered flag was in the air. Carlson was the winner ahead of Mason Smith, Leeper, Chad Puschinski, and Jake Smith in the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks were on track, led to the green by Alaina Chaplin and Nathaniel Keck. Quickly the running order shifted as Cole Greseth and Jerome Berger made their way through to the front of the field. Chris Dudley and Jon Halvorson had a good battle as they tried to keep pace with the leaders. Berger and Greseth proved to be the class of the field as they pulled away and had a great finish. At the line, it was Greseth with the win, with Berger a half car-length back. Halvorson was third followed by Dudley in fourth and Jeremy Gust in fifth.

The WISSOTA Midwest Mods were led to their initial green flag by Aaron Blacklance and Connor Drewry. Both drivers had a great battle in heat race competition and looked to resume their rivalry in the feature event. The track was starting to get ripples in the middle with some slick spots, making for a challenging race. One slight error meant falling back several positions. Drewry fell victim to such an incident as he missed the line in turns one and two and lost roughly five spots. With the challenging track conditions there were many spirited battles throughout the field. When the cars got to lapped traffic, Blacklance had pulled out to a big lead. A late caution erased that lead and nearly the win for Blacklance. Matt Schow had a good run and finished second with Taylor Jacobson securing the final podium spot.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were on track and led by Blake Ferris and Loki Bjerke. Those two cars pulled away slightly in the opening few laps. Behind them, Dustin Wahl was a missile on a mission. Wahl, who has had a tough season compared to years past, had his car dialed in and soon made his way to the front. During the race the track began to change as he and several other drivers had to adapt and change things up. The finish of the race was one of the best in recent memory. Heading into the final set of turns, Wahl had the lead and chose the more conservative line around the lapped car. Ferris, meanwhile, went for broke on the low side. Ferris made heavy contact with the lapped car and Wahl took home the win. Ferris finished second, and Ward Imrie was third.

The Lightning Sprints were flying around the race park with lap times in the 13-second bracket a full 3 seconds faster than any other class. The field took the green flag led by Dexter Dvergsten and Alan Truscinski. Truscinski led early, but Dvergsten proved to be too fast as he drove by into the top spot. As the laps dwindled, a couple cautions restarted the field, but it was the same result each time. Dvergsten pulled away for the win with Luke Hendrickson in second and Evan Yanish in third.

In the Four Cylinders, Nick McCann made quick work of the cars in front of him and was soon firmly in control of the race. Hayden Engen was second, and 12th-starter Gabriel Espe finished third.
