Wahlstrom, Amundson, Redetzke race to Dairyland Dash wins at Rice Lake while Adams sets Mid Mod mark and Swan declared winner while parked on turn four wall

RICE LAKE, WI (September 6) - The final event of the 2026 racing season at Rice Lake Speedway - the second half of the third annual Dairyland Dash - produced some wild finishes and some memorable racing action.

Kennedy Swan was ruled the winner of the WISSOTA Modified feature, even though when the checkered flag flew, she was propped up against the outside retaining wall in turn four. Blake Adams became the only driver to repeat both nights after he won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event. Other feature winners in WISSOTA action as the speedway wrapped up its 74th year of dirt track racing in the Indianhead region of northern Wisconsin included Jesse Redetzke, Shawn Amundson and Simon Wahlstrom.

Sunday night 130 drivers signed in to race on Sunday night in the six classes in competition this weekend.

With $2,000 on the line to the WISSOTA Modified winner, the action was intense. Swan got the jump on Brady Uotinen to lead the opening lap, which was then slowed by an early spin. Only three more laps were completed before another spin slowed the action.

Swan continued to lead with both Uotinen and Kaden Blaeser challenging. Tyler Vernon and Mike Anderson battled for position right behind them.

Swan was all over the track, using the high side and then occasionally dropping low as she sought the fastest line. Uotinen and Blaeser were putting heavy pressure on her, and the drivers had thrown caution to the wind. They were running daring laps as they challenged the strength of the concrete walls, while trying to make the track wider than it was.

Swan continued to lead at the halfway point of the race with Uotinen just ahead of Blaeser, while Anderson edged ahead of Vernon. The top three continued to run in a close group; Swan and Blaeser mainly worked the high side, while Uotinen ran the inside line. They remained in that order, but a last spin with just five laps to go set up a dramatic finish.

Blaeser had a great final restart and he drove past both Uotinen and Swan on the following lap to edge into the lead. However, Swan was not about to relinquish the lead easily and she charged back at Blaeser, throwing a wicked slide job on Blaeser in turn four and she edged back into the lead while Blaeser tried to regain control after a near miss between the two.

Blaeser appeared re-energized to get the lead back. Twice he dove extremely hard into the corners, nearly clipping the car of Swan as he sought to get back under her to attempt a pass.

Things came to a head on the final lap as Blaeser had a big run on Swan down the back chute. He dove very hard into turn three and slammed into the side of Swan’s car, sending her up into the concrete wall while then driving on himself to receive the checkered flag as the apparent winner. However, the next time around on the cool down lap, he had the black flag waved at him and track officials quickly huddled to determine the outcome. Swan was declared the winner ahead of Uotinen, Vernon, Anderson and Jake Hartung in the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature was an instant replay from Saturday night’s event, as Blake Adams and Brady Larson battled it out once again from start to finish, just as they had the previous night. They left the competition in the dust while they fought it out for the win, as Adams came out on top once again.

They started side by side on the front row and spent the whole race dueling it out. Adams once again grabbed the early lead and Larson spent the whole 20 laps trying to figure out a route past Adams.

Jason Vokovan had a strong run as he moved into third by the halfway point of the race and Tyler Vernon sought to get past him. The leaders weaved through lapped traffic, as the race had a single yellow flag and the long green flag session allowed drivers to spread out all over the track.

Larson could stay close, but he was never able to get a winning run accomplished, and Adams kept his line and drove on for the win. Late in the race Vernon got past Vokovan for third and Joe Swearingen completed a top five run.

Jesse Redetzke led from start to finish to win the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, but it was not an easy win, as he had both Shawn McFadden and Tommy Richards putting heavy pressure on him throughout the race. When they weren’t battling to get past Redetzke, they were battling each other and spent many laps side by side around the track.

A lap 13 yellow flag bunched the field one last time and McFadden decided to go for broke, moving to the outside lane to take a shot at Redetzke. He nearly pulled it off, but just couldn’t gather enough speed to make the pass. He was forced to fall back in line behind Richards, who had blocked his line to squeeze back into second.

That’s the way the top three finished, with Redetzke never faltering despite the heavy pressure. Shane Kisling opted to run the cushion and he made it work, driving up from 10th to edge past Tucker Quinn on the final lap and claim fourth.

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was a three-car battle from start to finish with Shawn Amundson holding off all the challenges of Cody Kummer and Parker Anderson to take the win. Amundson took the early lead with Anderson edging past Kummer for second. Both of them were running right on the rear bumper of Amundson’s car, but neither were able to get past the Rice Lake driver. Anderson preferred the outside line and while he edged up beside Amundson a couple of times, he just couldn’t quite get past for the lead.

Kummer also opted to restart on the outside a couple of times, too, but he had no more success than Anderson. No one could make a pass on Amundson.

A yellow late in the race set up a one-lap dash to the finish and Amundson, as he had during the whole race, didn’t make a mistake or give an opening and he drove on for the win with Kummer holding off Anderson, who made one last attempt to drive by on the high side. Cole Richards, track point champion, worked his way up to fourth at the end with Connor Franson having a good run for fifth.

Simon Wahlstrom was back behind the wheel on Sunday and the result was a win in a hard fought WISSOTA Pure Stock feature race. James Rahn led the first three laps before Wahlstrom drove up from the second row to take the lead.

However, Rahn fought back and continued to challenge Wahlstrom, while George Richards, Tyler Wahlstrom and Mark Barta raced close behind in a tight pack.

Barta was turned around, triggering a yellow, and one lap later Rahn, still battling for the lead, spun and set up a three-lap sprint to the finish.

Simon Wahlstrom then fought off challenges from Richards and Barta to take the win ahead of Austin Fencl and Tyler Wahlstrom in the top five.

Cooper Sundby is making a habit of pulling off late race victories in the Late Models and he did so for the second straight night as a lap 19 pass on Adam Prieve allowed him to pull out the win in the USRA Late Models. Sundby held Prieve off by less than a car length for the win ahead of Mitch Fenske, Lucas Peterson and Zack Drews in the remaining top five.

With the completion of the Dairyland Dash, the 2026 racing season at Rice Lake Speedway is now over. Fans should monitor the track website at www.ricelakespeedway.net for off-season announcements such as the date for the track banquet, the 2027 track schedule and other information relative to the upcoming historic 75th anniversary for the track.
