In Thursday Street Stock action, Vogel drives off the front row in big race to qualify for the front row in bigger race at the 100

FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 17) - The pole was the place to be Thursday in the WISSOTA Street Stock Qualifying Feature at the Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100, as Justin Vogel drove from the front row to victory lane to secure a spot in the front row of the Saturday Championship Feature.

Vogel and Ethan Beckler brought the 24-car field to the green for the Qualifying Feature and Vogel jumped out to the early lead, with heavy pressure coming from Parker Anderson. Anderson continued to work the bottom of the speedway, while Vogel rode the cushion around the 3/8ths-mile speedway. Vogel led lap one with Anderson on his back bumper.

During the second circuit around the speedway Anderson worked to the bottom of Vogel and took the lead, while Vogel locked horns with Cole Greseth for second.

Five laps into the 20-lap event Anderson led Greseth and Vogel, who were locked in a spirited battle for second, with Layla Chaplin and Keith Tourville battling for fourth. With Anderson continuing to lead, Vogel moved to the very top of the speedway and began to cut into Anderson’s lead a bit.

Meanwhile, Wednesday Qualifying Feature winner Levi Randt pulled to the infield with a mechanical issue, ending his night. It was later reported Randt pulled off to save equipment for Friday’s portion of the event.

The red flag came out with only four laps remaining for 2025 Speedway Motors WISSOTA 100 Champion Jim Gullikson, who rolled on his side along the back chute. Gullikson was okay and he was able to continue after officials tipped him back on his wheels.

The field lined back up behind Anderson, with Vogel choosing the outside and placing Greseth on the low side for the restart. With the green back out, Anderson raced back to the bottom of the track as Vogel pulled alongside him on the back chute. Anderson crossed Vogel over in turns three and four with Vogel moving to the low side of Anderson to keep the lead.

Vogel continued to pound the cushion on the top of the track and raced to the win ahead of Anderson in second, Greseth third, Tourville fourth, and Kolton Brauer fifth. Gullikson recovered from his earlier rollover to finish sixth, Greg Jose was seventh, and Mike Jans took home the final transfer spot in eighth.

Jans did not accept his transfer spot and decided to race again during Friday’s program.

Fifty-five WISSOTA Street Stocks were split into six heat races.

At the drop of the green of heat one, defending WISSOTA National Champion Kolton Brauer jumped out to the lead with the rest of the field boxed up behind him. Two laps into the race, John Halvorson cut a right front tire and brought out the caution. The field was lined back up behind Brauer and he continued to lead back under green, as 10th-starter Jim Gullikson raced his way up to third. With three laps to go Brauer was under heavy pressure from Cole Richards, while Gullikson locked horns with Mike Jans for third. Brauer was able to hold on for the win with Richards second, and Jans in third. Gullikson and Jeff Sekuterski completed the top five.

Heat race two was led to the green by North Dakotans Darek Turner and Greg Jose. As the duo exited turn one on the opening lap, both Jeff Ekdahl and Levi Randt worked by Turner and settled into second and third. At the halfway point of the race the running order stayed the same, but a caution flew for Micheal Brockman, who spun on the bottom of turns one and two; Brockman was able to continue and tagged the end of the field. The field was bunched back up behind Jose, as Randt jumped to the outside of Ekdahl and settled into second. Randt and Ekdahl traded some paint as the duo raced behind Jose with two to go. Before the lap could be completed, Ekdahl suffered a front end issue and pulled the infield, bringing out the caution. Jose led the field back to green for a two-lap shoot out. Jose moved back to the bottom of the speedway and held on for the win with Randt in second and Turner third. Brockman and Adam Dehne were top-five finishers.

Heat three rolled onto the track with three of WISSOTA’s best in the final two rows. The trio wasted no time racing toward the front, as seventh-starter Justin Vogel took the lead on the second lap with Cole Greseth and Keith Tourville following him to the front. Vogel planted his machine on the high side of the speedway and raced to the win with Greseth holding off a hard-charging Tourville for second. Chris Behrens and Alex Grinager completed the top five.

Greg Platzer jumped to the lead in the fourth heat race, with Montana driver Bryan Johnson and Parker Anderson in tow. Before a lap could be completed the field was halted by the red flag for a Tony Smith rollover in turn one. Smith was okay, but his evening was over after the incident. Anderson then worked his way to the front spot a couple of laps into the race and raced to a large advantage while Platzer battled with Johnson for second. Anderson cruised to the win with Johnson in second and Tony Miller in third. Rodney Hulst was the final finisher of the heat race in fourth.

Cody Hatch moved to the lead on the opening lap of the fifth heat race and continued to stretch his advantage as the laps ticked off. Meanwhile, Zach Flickinger and Kegan Stueve battled for second and third. Hatch went on to claim the win, with Flickinger grabbing second and Stueve settling for third. Cail Tinker and Jonathan Olmscheid completed the top five.

A pair of Aberdeen, SD drivers shared with front row with Ferlin Sheridan jumping to the lead ahead of Cory Moser. The duo was quickly joined by Layla Chaplin, who raced into second on lap two. Chaplin moved to the lead on lap four and set sail. Chaplin cruised to the win with Ethan Beckler in second and Dylan Arndt in third. Kammron Rose was fourth and Ferlin Sheridan was fifth.
