Anderson and Inman lock up major coin at Proctor Speedway’s 53rd Silver 1000 invitational

By Chris Stepan

PROCTOR, MN (August 28) - The WISSOTA Challenge Series rolled into Proctor KME Speedway in Proctor, Minnesota for the 53rd running of the Silver 1000.

Known as the “Granddaddy of them all,” this year’s decorated winners included Ashley Anderson in the Late Models and Andrew Inman in the Modifieds.

After heat race action was completed, Kevin Burdick and Anderson earned the front row for the night’s $3,000-to-win, 40-lap WISSOTA Late Model feature event, with Anderson getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the opening lap.

With Anderson out front, Burdick and Nelson began a side-by-side battle for second early on, with great action throughout the top 10 early. There were several three-wide battles going on for fourth among Vesel, Dave Flynn and Johnny Broking, and for seventh among Sam Mars, Dave Mass and Jake Redetzke.

Anderson continued to set the pace out front with Nelson a close second, as the lead duo tried to slip away from the rest of the field. Nelson took several cracks at Anderson for the top spot just prior to halfway. The top two circled the Proctor KME Speedway side by side for several laps, just inches apart as the race reached the halfway point on lap 20.

Burdick found something on the extreme high side of the speedway just past halfway and rolled up alongside Nelson for the runner-up spot on several occasions, but Nelson was able to keep Burdick at bay.

Meanwhile, just behind the leaders, 10th-starter Mars and 11th-starter Eder were rolling and appeared to be the fastest two cars on the track, while Anderson was trying to negotiate lapped traffic during the race’s final 10 circuits.

With Anderson working traffic and Nelson trying to hold off Burdick, both Mars and Eder began to charge; Mars got to Burdick’s rear spoiler as the white flag flew.

Anderson raced uncontested to the win with Nelson second, followed by Burdick, who nipped Mars at the line for third and Eder rounding out the top-five finishers in the nonstop event.

Anderson was presented with an additional $800 lap leader bonus for leading every lap and Eder picked up an additional $500 for finishing fifth in a random drawing among feature finishers.

Andrew Inman raced from the pole to lead all 30 laps in the WISSOTA Modified feature, taking home his first Silver 1000 title for his efforts.

At the drop of the green, he blasted away from fellow front-row starter Austin Chyba and opened up a sizable gap on the field early on. While he continued to pace the field out front, Chyba, Tanner Gehl and Ryan Gierke were in a great battle for the runner-up spot prior to halfway when Jody Bellefeuille joined the mix, trying to race his way into the top three.

At the midpoint of the race, it was three No. 11 cars out front, with Inman leading Chyba and Bellefeuille. Gierke was fourth and 14th-starter Kaden Blaeser, the race’s defending champion, appeared in the top five.

The race appeared as if it was going to go non-stop until a lap 28 caution flew for Aiden Hoffman, who spun in turn four, bunching up the field and setting up a green-white-checkered dash to the finish.

Inman was up to the challenge on the restart, and he drove off and topped Bellefeuille for his first ever Silver 1000 championship. Bellefeuille crossed the line in second with Shane Sabraski nipping Gierke at the line for third and Blaeser rounding out the top-five finishers.
