Leiker and Holtquist hold the winning hands on night one of the Gillette Thunder Speedway East-West Clash

GILLETTE, WY (August 29) - The 25th annual East-West Clash kicked off at Gillette Thunder Speedway on Friday. Opening night WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Troy Leiker and Dustin Holtquist.

It was a pair of Leikers at the front of the field again in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds. On Friday, Troy Leiker grabbed the lead early from his third-starting spot and pulled away to the checkered flags. Tony Leiker started fifth, and was second a handful of laps into the race, but watched his brother’s car get smaller as he lost ground and finished more than two seconds behind Troy. Scott Hansen was the first driver from “the East” in the top five in third, with Austin Long fourth and Chad Switzenberg fifth.

Dustin Holtquist scored one for the east in the WISSOTA Mod Fours. He started on the pole and paced the field to the checkered flag, although second-place Brett Konst stayed within a half second for much of the latter half of the contest. Robert Holtquist charged from seventh to finish third ahead of Tristan Torres and Michael Logelin.

In other action on opening night, Cory Probst made the long tow from southwestern Minnesota - and 12th on the starting grid - for the IMCA Hobby Stock win, Eddie Kirchoff earned the Late Model victory, Kyle Anton captured the IMCA Modified win, and Robert Donmyer topped the Mini Bombers in his No. 2% car.
