Mass, Simpson, Sabraski and Carlson emerge top guns at Grand Rapids as the WISSOTA Classic lives up to its name in 2025
By Chris Stepan
GRAND RAPIDS, MN (August 29) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Models rolled into Grand Rapids Speedway in Grand Rapids, Minnesota for the 31st running of the WISSOTA Classic. Dave Mass raced off the outside of the front row to lead all 40 laps en route to his first WISSOTA Classic championship.
Other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners on the night included David Simpson, Shane Sabraski and Austin Carlson.
After heat race action was completed, Sabraski and Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event, with Mass getting the upper hand on the initial start.
With Mass leading out front, Sabraski, Billy Kendall and Gunner Frank began a three-wide battle for second early on.
Mass continued to set the pace out front, with Sabraski and Kendall producing a fantastic wheel-to-wheel battle for second as the leader slipped away from the rest of the field prior to halfway.
As Mass worked through lapped traffic, Sabraski and Kendall closed in; Mass worked through traffic flawlessly as Kendall and Sabraski worked hard to settle the battle for the runner-up spot.
The lone caution flew for a Jeff Provinzino breakdown on lap 35, bunching the field and giving the field a shot at Mass.
Following the restart, Mass was able to do what he had been doing all race long and drove off to his second Challenge Series win of his career and second of the week. Sabraski was second, while Kyle Peterlin found something on the extreme high side of the speedway and raced from outside the top five into third during the final circuits. He slipped ahead for the final podium spot, Eder grabbed fourth and Kendall rounded out the top five finishers.
Shane Sabraski (Tim Hunt Photo)
Sabraski won the WISSOTA Modified feature, besting fellow front-row starter Bob Broking for the victory. Jody Bellefeuille, Kennedy Swan and Cole Chernosky were top-five finishers.
Sabraski also scored the WISSOTA Super Stock win, taking the lead with about four laps in the books and driving to a 2-second advantage at the checkered flag. Tristan LaBarge, Cole Chernosky, Jordan Henkemeyer and Kyle Copp completed the top five.

David Simpson (Tim Hunt Photo)
David Simpson started on the pole and led from start to finish, driving off to the eventual victory in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. Jake Smith, 10th-starter William Moelter, Michael Blevins, Sr. and Gary James Nelson rounded out the top five.
Austin Carlson (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
Austin Carlson won the WISSOTA Pure Stock feature to cap off the night. He was chased to the stripe by Jake Smith (86J), Dustin Puffe, Alex Berg and Dylan Helget in the top five.
