WISSOTA board member, I-94 Speedway worker Scott Engfer dies after on-track incident at 2025 WISSOTA 100
FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 10) - WISSOTA board member and I-94 Speedway track official Scott Engfer died Wednesday from injuries he sustained in a collision between the four-wheeler he was riding and a race car on the track at I-94 emr Speedway.
The accident occurred at the conclusion of the night’s first Street Stock heat during the WISSOTA 100 event.
Emergency personnel were on scene and responded immediately after the collision. Engfer was transported by ambulance to Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls but died from his injuries.
Engfer had been a member of the region’s dirt track racing scene for decades. He took great pride in the race track prep and other operations of I-94 emr Speedway, where he had worked alongside previous owners Dick Johanneck and Karla Kadelbach, as well as current owner Don Shaw.
In November 2024, during WISSOTA’s annual meeting, Engfer was elected to serve on the racing organization’s board of directors.
Scott had been diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier in 2025 and was days from finishing a round of chemotherapy treatment for that, according to his wife, Deb. “He was looking forward to it (finishing treatment) and feeling better. He was a trooper though, as he kept working through it all,” she said.
Deb, who also has worked at the race track for many years, returned to the speedway Friday and Saturday to be among her friends and racing family. On Championship Saturday, drivers passed helmets through the crowd and more than $12,000 was raised to help support the Engfer family. Deb rode in the pace truck - Scott’s water truck - at the front of the field during the annual Parade Of Champions prior to Saturday night’s Championship Features.
