FERGUS FALLS, MN (September 9) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series was welcomed to I-94 emr Speedway Tuesday for its second-to-last event of 2025, as the series closed in on crowning a champion the following night, Wednesday, September 10.
Tuesday night the stars of the WISSOTA Challenge Series ran their program in the midst of practice laps for the other four classes, set to appear all week as part of the WISSOTA 100. During feature action, Kevin Eder charged from 10th on the grid to take the victory, right on the heels of his big win during the Labor Day Shootout in Hibbing.
In the Late Model feature, Shawn Meyer and Lee Grosz led the field to the green. Grosz escaped with the early advantage ahead of Meyer, as Joel Bennett and Tyler Peterson engaged in a side-by-side battle for third. Cory Crapser and Cole Schill were close behind.
With three laps complete Peterson drove into third and began to cut away at the distance to Meyer; Peterson made the pass for second with six laps in the books. Bennett and Crapser completed the early top five.
With 11 laps in the books Peterson had cut Grosz’s advantage to less than half a second before the yellow flew for a Jordan Tollakson spin.
Back under green Peterson used the first two turns to gain the slight advantage underneath Grosz, but Grosz fought back along his preferred top side. Peterson then moved to the cushion, while Dave Mass charged into the top five to third. Bennett and Crapser held their top five spots, before Eder drove by into fifth with about 15 laps scored. The caution fell once more for debris on the track.

Peterson took the lead on the ensuing restart, as Grosz was immediately under fire from Eder along the low side. Mass was fourth and Bennett held fifth. Eder secured second with 18 laps in the books, while farther back Kevin Burdick appeared in the top five, displacing Bennett for the spot.
Peterson’s lead at the halfway point was about a second and a half, while Grosz, Mass and Burdick continued to race within the top five. Out front, Peterson grew his lead to nearly 3 seconds with 17 to go, but just three laps later, started to quickly lose momentum, with Eder cutting into the lead as Peterson tried to navigate lapped traffic.
With laps winding down, Peterson squeezed his way past two backmarkers, but Eder remained in striking distance, able to race both the low and high sides as he searched for a way by.
With lapped traffic in front of the lead duo once again, Eder pulled even with Peterson down the frontstretch with four to go, but wasn’t able to time the pass with lapped traffic directly in front of him.
Eder regathered himself and with three to go, drew even once again heading into turns three and four; as they raced down the frontstretch, contact between the two occurred in front of the flagstand, and as they raced through turn one and out of turn two, Eder had the momentum to drive off with the lead. From there he grew his advantage to more than a second at the checkered flag and took the victory. Peterson, Grosz, Mass and Crapser completed the top five.
Earlier in the program, heat race winners included Peterson, Schill, Devin Fouquette, Crapser, and Mass.
