Glenz gets a $9292 paycheck for topping Seitz Memorial headliner while Peterson, Schow and Greseth also grab Saturday wins at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, ND (September 12) - Saturday night ushered in the finale features for the 20th annual John Seitz Memorial held at River Cities Speedway.

At the end of the 92-lapper, Jesse Glenz topped the WISSOTA Late Model headliner. Other winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Tyler Peterson in the Modifieds, Matt Schow in the Midwest Mods, and Cole Greseth in the Street Stocks.

The 25-lap WISSOTA Street Stock feature kicked off the night’s main events. Keith Tourville was the early leader ahead of Levi Randt to complete the first lap before a yellow fell for a car off the track.

Tourville remained in charge out front, while Randt continued to lead Darek Turner and Cole Greseth in the top four. Another caution for a car upside down regrouped the field.

Back under green Greseth shot past Turner and looked ahead to Randt in second; they remained side by side for several laps in a great battle before Greseth gained the spot. A caution for a two-car incident brought the yellow back out over the field.

Tourville held about a half second advantage back under green, as Greseth fought back past Randt for second. He quickly caught Tourville and the race for the lead was on; Greseth charged into the lead out of turn four with nine laps to go. Tourville, Randt, Turner and Parker Anderson held top-five spots.

Greseth added to his advantage in the closing laps, grabbing the checkered flag by 2.741 seconds ahead of Randt, who took second from Tourville in the last handful of laps. Turner and Anderson completed the top five.

The Late Model headliner was next on the track, with polesitter James Giossi the leader early on. With 10 laps complete Tyler Peterson drove by into the lead. Jayson Good was third, with Gavin Tarras, Joey Pederson and Josh Skorczewski in the mix for top-five spots.

As Peterson added to his lead out front, Good continued to work the bumper of Giossi for second. As the top three navigated lapped traffic, Cole Schill and Jesse Glenz were on the march toward the front of the field with 69 laps to go.

As Peterson struggled to get by the lapped car of Jeff Provinzino, Giossi shot back past Peterson. Peterson returned the favor a lap or two later, with Provinzino still ahead of them, but a caution fell at lap 32 for the fuel break and negated Peterson’s move to the lead.

Back under green, Giossi skated away from Peterson, who was second just ahead of Good, Tarras and Skorczewski in top five. Skorczewski moved into third ahead of Good, with Glenz cracking the top five.

As Giossi came around with 41 laps complete and lapped traffic stacked in both lanes just ahead, a caution fell for Mike Greseth’s spun race car along the frontstretch.

Giossi held the lead for the restart, as Skorczewski took second from Peterson. Glenz had worked his way into fourth, ahead of Good. Peterson regained second from Skorczewski before the yellow fell again, this time for Mike Stearns.

With the green back out and 47 laps left on the board, Peterson and Giossi were side by side for the lead, with Glenz right on their heels. Peterson gained the lead from Giossi and Glenz moved into second. Good was fourth and Skorczewski was fifth, just ahead of 12-starter Aaron Turnbull.

Seven laps later lapped traffic was an issue for the leaders once again, and it allowed Glenz the chance for the lead; Glenz continued to chip away at Peterson’s advantage, but a caution with 37 laps to go regrouped the field.

Peterson led the field back to green, with Giossi and Glenz side by side behind him. Giossi used the low lane to hang onto second, as Good was trying to hold off a collection of hot shoes. Skorczewski drove into fourth, Cole Searing was fifth and Turnbull was sixth as Good fell back through the field a bit.

Out front with 28 laps to go, Peterson was in heavy lapped traffic with a 2.5-second advantage ahead of Giossi. The traffic was holding up Peterson and his lead began to evaporate, with just about a half second lead six laps later. They were side by side for the lead with just 20 laps to go, and then Peterson bobbled along the high side in turn four. Giossi was unable to capitalize however, as Peterson tried to keep his race car along the rough high line. A caution with 16 to go for Shane Edginton regrouped the field.

Peterson was the leader when the field was back under green, as Glenz moved into second, Giossi was third, Searing was fourth and Skorczewski fifth. Eighteenth-starter A.J. Diemel was just outside the top five in sixth with 11 laps to go. Peterson appeared to have mechanical issues when he slowed in turn two and into turn three, and the caution reappeared with just 11 laps left.

Back under green, Glenz inherited the lead, leaving Giossi to fight with Searing for second. Another caution, for Stearns, regrouped the field under yellow once again.

Glenz pulled away under green, as Searing took second from Giossi. Turnbull was third at the line the next go-round, but another caution with eight to go reset the field.

Glenz held command, but Turnbull was on the hunt. Yet another caution two laps later kept the field at a stop-and-go pace.

With the green back out over the field, Turnbull used the high side momentum to pull even with Glenz, who was hugging the bottom. As Glenz worked his way back out to a 1 second advantage the caution fell again, this time for Cody Overton.

In the final three-lap dash to the checkered, Glenz held the lead over a side-by-side battle for second between Turnbull and Searing. A caution with two laps brought the field under yellow.

Glenz led the remaining laps to garner the victory, while Searing used the high side to regain second. Turnbull, Skorczewski and Giossi completed the top five.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Bryce Sward and Ward Imrie led the field to the green flag. Following an early caution, Sward was the leader ahead of a three-wide battle for second among Mike Stearns, Imrie and Austin Hunter. Peterson shot past Hunter for fourth, while Imrie was third and Stearns shook out into second. Stearns took the lead from Sward, as Peterson moved into third past Imrie. Hunter was fifth, under pressure from Blake Adams.

With 20 laps to go, Stearns continued to lead Sward, who had closed back in on Stearns as he worked through lapped traffic. A Rick Delaine spin brought the field under caution.

Stearns held a 1-second advantage ahead of Peterson, with Adams on the charge and pressuring him for second. They continued to swap positions over the next several laps, all while closing in on Stearns. Joe Thomas was fourth, and Sward was fifth.

With lapped traffic ahead for Stearns, Peterson rolled to his inside out of turn four and took the lead, as Adams also got by to second. Adams continued to roll the high line, looking for advantage in turns one and two. Adams regained the lead briefly with five to go, but Peterson fought back as the duo raced through lapped traffic in both lanes. Stearns was close behind in third. With two to go, Peterson moved to the top side to get by lapped traffic and Adams jumped the berm in turn one; Peterson ran away with the lead after that and grabbed the win one lap later. Adams, Stearns, Thomas and Sward completed the top five.

Dawson Zabel was the early leader of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature Saturday, ahead of Austin Hunter, Jory Berg, Matt Schow and Cylen Vargason in the top five.

Zabel had heavy pressure under green for the lead; Hunter and Berg were side by side for second, as Schow worked his way into fourth. Schow closed quickly in on Hunter and Berg, taking third with 17 laps to go and using the low side to drive past Berg into second about a lap later.

Berg used the high side to drive into the lead but it was brief, as Schow drove by the lead pair into the top spot. Zabel settled in second ahead of Berg and Hunter.

As the leaders worked through lapped traffic, Schow’s lead was more than 3.5 seconds. A caution for a spun Zabel regrouped the field. Zabel got this spot back.

Schow stepped out to the advantage once again, while Hunter and Berg held top-three spots as the lead trio pulled away from the rest of the field. A caution with two to go brought about a late restart.

Schow held on for the remaining laps and another two cautions to net the victory ahead of Hunter and Berg in the top three. Zabel and 17th-starter Dylan McCaughan rounded out the top five.
