Arment, Stearns, Nelson, Zabel and Bertram bag the big ones on season championship night at Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, SD (August 28) - As the 2026 season winds down at Brown County Speedway, season championship night was held Friday night. There were a few point battles that came down to the final night, while others were already decided. There was a total of 97 cars checked in for WISSOTA Dirt Track Series and Legends racing.

Winners in WISSOTA-sanctioned action included Kyle Bertram, Dawson Zabel, Mike Stearns, Trevor Nelson and Kent Arment.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks started off the night with 21 drivers on hand. Bertram and Jayden Michaelsohn brought the field to green, with Bertram grabbing the early lead. Cory Moser moved into second using the high side before the caution struck on lap two.

Following the restart, Bertram led with Chris Serr in second. The field quickly started to fan out around the speedway. Bertram opened a straightaway lead while the action from third to sixth heated up.

As Bertram took the white, a caution waved and set up a green, white, checkered finish. Bertram had Serr and Moser on his bumper for the restart, and Serr had a good jump on the restart, but Bertram fought back on the outside and controlled the lead. After the field took white flag the caution waved for a spin in turn two and the race was called complete. Bertram scored his second straight win at BCS, while Serr, Jodie Michaelsohn, Moser and Andy Rossow rounded out the top five.

Jodie Michaelsohn had a one point lead coming into the night and fended off Jayden Bogh to score his first-ever track championship.

WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds came out next with 19 drivers in the field. Todd Stark and William Hein set the pace to green; Dawson Zabel led the opening lap, but Stark fought back to lead the second lap.

Zabel slid Stark to regain the lead with 10 to go, as Jake Wranek worked his way into third. The lead duo was just about to catch lapped traffic when the caution flag struck.

On the restart, the field stacked up coming out of turn four and ended the night for several drivers in the field. There was a caution on the second attempt and officials cut the race to five laps remaining. Zabel and Stark pulled away from the field while Hein, Kyle Schell and Wranek all battled for third as Hein took the spot. Zabel fended off Stark to score his seventh win of the year at BCS and claimed the track championship.

Next the WISSOTA Modifieds were on track, with 11 drivers on hand. Mike Stearns and Tony Konold took green from the front row, but the field was frozen under red as James Hanley rolled down the back straight; Hanley was okay. Stearns led the field with Kent Arment battling Konold for second on the ensuing restart.

Arment took over the runner-up spot and began to track down Stearns. As the laps flew by it was a battle for third among Konold, Nate Heinrich and Preston Carr. Heinrich got to third with 12 to go. The track was racey all over, as drivers were using every lane possible.

Arment began reeling in Stearns during the closing laps and was only one car length behind at the white. But Stearns fended him off to score his fifth win of the year at BCS, while simultaneously capturing another track championship.

Twelve drivers made the WISSOTA Super Stock field Friday, and Dominique Menzia and Trevor Nelson were not only in a points battle - but they also led the field to green. Nelson rocketed out to the early advantage, before the pesky caution flag struck on lap three.

On the restart, Nelson began to roll the bottom as Mike Rohwedder ripped the top in second place. There was a fierce battle from third to ninth as drivers ran different lanes around the track. Nelson’s lead over Rohwedder slowly grew every lap. The caution struck with six to go as Brad Kopecky caught the barrel in turn three which saw his nose cone dig in on the frontstretch and implode.

On the ensuing restart, Nelson checked out on the field. As Nelson took the white flag, the caution struck again. That set up a green, white, and checkered shootout; Nelson ran away from the field from there to score his ninth win of the year at BCS while he secured himself another track championship.

Rounding out the program was the WISSOTA Late Models with 12 drivers on hand, and Kent Arment and Mike Stearns bringing the field to green. Arment was the early leader and Chad Becker took second.

As the lead duo fought for position, Josh Skorczewski moved into third. The lead duo found lapped traffic with 17 to go, and then two laps later Becker bobbled on the top, which gave second to Skorczewski and opened more of an advantage for Arment.

Arment continued to roll the bottom and his lead grew, but he caught lapped traffic with six laps to go. The traffic held him up a little, and then a caution struck with five to go, erasing Arment’s lead.

Skorczewski was right on Arment’s bumper for the restart, but Arment was too strong on the bottom and went on to score his fourth win of the year in the class at BCS. Becker was crowned track champ with his third place finish. Stearns and Jaden Christ completed the top five.

Colton Miller scored his first-ever win at BCS in the INEX Legends class, while T.J. Pfeiffer was crowned the inaugural track champion in the class.
