Massingill, Broking, Carlson, Adams, Smith & Fosso get the Grand Rapids kudos Thursday night
GRAND RAPIDS, MN (August 27) - Jeff Massingill, Dalton Carlson, Blake Adams, Bob Broking, Mason Smith and Brady Fosso were WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners Thursday at Grand Rapids Speedway.
Michael Blevins and Dean Eggebraaten brought the field of WISSOTA Midwest Mods to the green flag; Blevins was the leader by a hair at the line ahead of Adams, but a large wreck in the back of the field brought out the first yellow. Another caution on the restart kept them stalled.
Blevins led under green, with Adams and Eggebraaten right on his bumper. Adams went to the top to try to gain momentum to get by Blevins but another caution, this time for spinners in turn two, brought the field back under yellow. The yellow reappeared on the restart attempt.
Back under green with just two laps complete at this point, Adams used the high side to complete the pass on Blevins the next lap. Caley Emerson was third, Josh Beaulieu was fourth and Eggebraaten had slipped back to fifth. Another caution was triggered with six laps complete.
The cautions continued through the remaining laps, but Adams held control and took the victory ahead of Blevins, Beaulieu, Skyler Smith and Darrin Lawler.
Dalton Carlson (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
Following a spin before the green flag by Jada Lore in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Carlson was the early leader for the full restart. Dylan Nelson, Matt Sparby, Michael Blevins, Sr., and Chaston Finckbone were the early top five with a few laps completed.
As the laps continued, the field became strung out until the late stages when Nelson moved to Carlson’s bumper. Nelson didn’t have quite enough to get by Carlson at the finish line, however, and Carlson grabbed the victory ahead of Nelson, Sparby, Blevins, and Finckbone in the top five.
Jeff Massingill (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
Jeff Massingill and T.J. Heinle brought the field to green in the WISSOTA Late Models. Massingill led from the get-go, with Burdick grabbing second early. Jeff Provinzino took third, Billy Kendall was fourth and Harry Hanson was fifth with Johnny Broking right on his bumper. A caution fell with 13 laps to go for Zach Wohlers, who was spun on the frontstretch.
With the green back out Massingill set off into an immediate advantage, while Burdick and Provinzino fought each other for second. Hanson was on their heels in fourth, with Broking fifth. Burdick broke away into second, as Provinzino and Hanson engaged in a fight for fourth. Hanson took the spot and set off after Burdick.
Out front Massingill made his way through lapped traffic with ease and took the victory ahead of Burdick, Hanson, Provinzino and Broking in the top five.
Bob Broking (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
Bob Broking and Devyn Weleski led the field of WISSOTA Modifieds to the green flag, with Broking the early leader. Adams moved into second, and grabbed the lead with a handful of laps in the books. Behind them, Kennedy Swan drove by Weleski into third, and Lance Schilling was fifth. A couple laps later Mervin Castle III took fifth.
Adams briefly went to the top of the track and Broking regained the lead. With four laps to go, lapped traffic was in the preferred lane and while Broking made his way by, Adams was briefly held up down the backstretch. Adams moved back in to Broking’s bumper, but was unable to capitalize and Broking pulled away the final lap for the victory. Adams, Swan, Castle and Weleski were top-five finishers.
After touring the speedway side by side and nose to tail for several laps in the early going of the WISSOTA Hornet feature, Brady Fosso got by Ryker Larson for the lead early in the race and drove on to the feature victory. Larson, Nick Ruzich, McKenna Folstad and Tucker Smith, who started 12th, completed the top five.
Mason Smith (Jennifer Tomczyk Photo)
In the WISSOTA Pure Stocks, Dylan Helget was the early leader ahead of Jake Smith. As the front duo went back and forth for the lead, Mason Smith - recovered from an earlier spin - slowly made his way forward and had a great restart with eight to go to grab second.
With four to go, Mason Smith had just enough momentum to drive by along the inside of Jake Smith, and he took the lead and hung on for the victory. Helget, Austin Carlson and Kade Leeper completed the top five.
K.C. Hawkinson topped the Northern Renegades feature.
