Stearns, Gross, Nelson, Zabel and Bogh burn it all the way to a flaming victory lane at Brown County Speedway

ABERDEEN, S.D. (Aug. 22) - After a two week hiatus for the Brown County Fair, racing action returned to Brown County Speedway. A total of 91 drivers entered WISSOTA Dirt Track Series competition, with season championship night also part of the program.
In addition to crowning the track champions, there were multiple tributes to Terry Voeltz, longtime promoter of BCS, who sadly passed away on August 5 following a battle with cancer.
WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Trevor Nelson, Mike Stearns, Michael Bogh, Dawson Zabel and Garrett Gross.
WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds kicked off the festivities with 22 drivers on hand. Cole Neset and Jordan Kienow led the field to green, with Kienow the early leader until caution struck on lap two.
On the restart Dawson Zabel sent a slider into turn one and took the lead. The high side was very technical with a couple rough spots, and Zabel began to pull away until caution struck again on lap seven. The restart took five attempts, with four of them called back for more wrecks.
The fifth and final restart fired and Zabel had Kyle Anderson on his heels as they pulled away from the field. In the final laps Anderson closed in on Zabel, but was never close enough to make a move for the lead. Zabel won his third straight feature at Brown County Speedway, while Todd Stark was crowned track champion.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks followed with 17 drivers on hand and it turned into what could be considered the race of the year at BCS. Corey Moser and Maria Broksieck led the field to green, with Moser the early leader.
Broksieck stayed on Moser’s tail and took the lead from him on lap four. The race was fast paced, with drivers searching the race track for the best line. Moser challenged Broksieck in an attempt to regain the lead, which allowed Jodie Michaelsohn to close in and steal the lead from both of them.
Michaelsohn’s lead was short-lived, as Broksieck regained the lead only a lap later. As the laps wound down, Michael Bogh crept his way to the leaders and caught Broksieck coming to the white flag; they battled side by side during the final lap. As they came out of turn four neck and neck, Bogh won by .011 seconds. The win was Bogh’s first at BCS in 2025, and his son Jayden Bogh was crowned the track champion the same night.
Garrett Gross (Cody Papke Photo)
The WISSOTA Modifieds had 13 drivers on hand, led to green by Garrett Gross and Dylan Zabel. Gross grabbed the early advantage before a caution re-racked the field.
Following the restart, Gross was on a mission and shot out like a rocket. He did not leave the field behind though, as Lucas Rodin was hot on his coattails. Gross found a line, however, and pulled a straightaway ahead of Rodin. Gross was in another ZIP code and dominated to win his first feature of 2025. Stearns was also crowned the track champion for the WISSOTA Modifieds.
Trevor Nelson (Cody Papke Photo)
Next up the WISSOTA Super Stocks hit the track with 16 drivers on hand, with Dom Menzia the early leader. The lead was short-lived, as a caution struck on lap two.
Following the restart Trevor Nelson hooked the highside and took the lead. Nelson immediately checked out on the field as the battle from second to sixth was heavy until caution struck again on lap eight.
Nelson pulled away from the field once again following the restart. The battle for second was heavy among Menzia, Schipke, Mark Abeln, Bryson North and Austin Arbogast. Nobody had anything for Nelson, however, as he pulled away to score his sixth win at BCS. Abeln was crowned the track champion.

Finally, the WISSOTA Late Models hit the track with 23 drivers on hand. Eric Edwards and Mike Stearns brought the field to green, with third-starter Josh Skorczewski leading the opening lap.
On lap three caution struck; on the restart, Skorczewski and Stearns pulled away from the field to battle for the lead. The duo hit lapped traffic on lap nine. By lap 12, Stearns made a pass for the lead, but caution struck and negated the pass. Another caution struck on lap 14; when the field refired, Stearns chased Skorczewski and they began to work through lapped traffic again on lap 20. Stearns used traffic to drive into the top spot.
Another caution struck with four to go, and following the restart Stearns ran away from the field to score his second win in the Late Model at Brown County Speedway. Chad Becker was crowned the track champion.
