Rohner, Dykhoff, Randt, Gierke and Grosz grab the checkers on Backpack night at I-94 Speedway

By Ron Krog

FERGUS FALLS, MN (August 22) - A nice field of 120 cars packed into I-94 Speedway on Friday night for Backpack Giveaway night, which was all about the kids - and the racers gave fans quite a show, too.

WISSOTA Dirt Track Series winners included Lee Grosz, Landyn Randt, Ryan Gierke, Kyle Dykhoff and Jeff Rohner.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks kicked things off with their King of Dirt makeup feature. Early on, Eric Riley and Justin Vogel went back and forth before Kyle Dykhoff moved up to challenge. As the laps clicked off, Riley, Dykhoff, and Jeff Ekdahl kept the crowd entertained.

In the closing laps, it turned into a two-car duel between Riley and Dykhoff, who threw sliders back and forth until Dykhoff held on for the win. Riley settled for second, Hunter Carter claimed third, Ekdahl finished fourth, and Levi Randt rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks then ran their regular feature, where Cole Greseth looked strong until Corey Dykhoff snuck in to challenge. That opened the door for Riley and eventually Kyle Dykhoff, who stormed from his 25th starting spot to take an amazing win - his second of the night. Riley finished second again, with Vogel charging from 26th to third. Greg Jose and Trey Hess were top-five finishers.

The WISSOTA Modifieds also put on a quality show Friday. Fresh off his emotional Bob Gierke Memorial win, Ryan Gierke shot out like a cannon in this one. Bryce Sward gave chase and was close near the end, but Gierke held strong for the victory. Sward finished second and Brady Gerdes was third. Brett Hoium and Travis Saurer rounded out the top five.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds started 31 cars for their feature. Haley Dykhoff and Landon Randt led the field early, trading the top spot until Randt regained the lead for good. As they battled, Matt Schow charged from 12th to second, while Tanner Bitzan moved into the mix late. At the finish, Randt took the win, Schow grabbed second, and Bitzan crossed in third. Scott Oeltjen and Dykhoff completed the top five.

The WISSOTA Late Models drew 21 cars, with Zach Johnson and Mike Greseth leading the early laps. But the story was Lee Grosz, who powered from fifth to the front and never looked back.

Behind him, Don Shaw and Travis Saurer put on a show in the top five with Greseth also in the mix. At the checkered flag, Grosz was the winner ahead of Saurer, Dave Mass, Greseth and Jack Koranda in the top five.

In the WISSOTA Hornets, 12 cars took the green. Jeff Rohner jumped out front and had to fend off pressure from Hunter Goulet. Rohner was able to hang on for the win Friday, with Goulet, Christian Kast, Kevin Wahl and Andy Booke finishing in the top five.

In non-WISSOTA action, the Gen X Late Models entertained the crowd with their feature action. Rick Schroeder came out on top, adding another win to his season tally.
