Rain ruins championship night but big stuff still on tap at Gondik Law Speedway

SUPERIOR, WI (August 22) - Perhaps the only thing more frustrating for a racer, fan or track promoter than a completely cancelled season-championship program is one that is wiped out by heavy rains with only the features remaining during a program.

Just as the kids went onto the racing surface for their box-car races, light sprinkles began to fall. As the kids’ event concluded, the skies opened up a bit more, and once everyone was safely off the track a deluge began.

Dave Flynn won his first track title since moving up to the Late Model division four seasons ago by just two points over Pat Doar.

Jody Bellefeuille’s 37-point advantage coming into the night increased by one after the preliminaries, giving him the WISSOTA Modified title.

Andy Grymala captured his first-ever divisional title at the speedway. His 29-point advantage over Matt Deragon was trimmed by one after Deragon came home second in his heat, but Grymala had more than enough of a cushion even if the feature had run.

Ryan Savoy chalked up another Gondik Law Speedway track title in the WISSOTA Midwest Modified division. Savoy, whose lead coming into the evening’s action was 14 over Paul Ripley, added another point to his margin after each ran his respective heat, and Savoy had the title clinched based on the car count in the feature and the points available to him.

Eric Crosby, in a battle for the WISSOTA Pure Stock National Championship, added to his advantage during his heat race on Friday and nailed down his first GLS title after a dominant season, by a final margin of 24 points.

Carson Gotelaere took the win in his WISSOTA Hornet heat race to lock up that division’s 2025 crown at his home track, just five days after clinching the same divisional title at Proctor Speedway.

After the Labor Day weekend, the 37th annual Northern Nationals will be held at the track on Wednesday-Saturday, September 3-6. On Wednesday fans are invited to watch a free-admission practice session from 6-9 p.m., during which the “XR Showdown in Souptown” will provide a Super Stocks-versus-Midwest Mods challenge race.

On Thursday there will be full programs held for the WISSOTA Street Stocks, Midwest Mods, Pure Stocks and Hornets, and the UMSS winged sprints, followed by DJ-provided music. And Friday and Saturday will include full programs each night for the WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks and Midwest Mods, plus a “Canadian Challenge” feature to cap off the weekend.
