Copp claims a cool grand for Mod win while Americans and Canadians split the rest of the Thunder City mains

THUNDER BAY, ONTARIO (August 20) - A large field of racers were on hand Wednesday night in Thunder Bay, as Thunder City Speedway hosted a WISSOTA Modified special paying $1,000 to the winner, and national point chasing brought several States-based racers across the border.

Brandon Copp, Joey Jensen and Kolton Brauer scored victories from the U.S. contingent, while Cole Chernosky and Spencer Smith protected their home turf and took trips to victory lane.

Smith started in the third row of WISSOTA Hornets, made his way past race leader Rick Breukelman just before the midpoint of the race, and then drove on to net his fifth win at the track in 2025. Breukelman, who led the first four laps, had to settle for runner-up honors behind Smith. Sam Bolt, Selena Owen and Kristina Moro completed the top five.

Joey Jensen (Makenna Burke Photo)

Jamie Davis was the early leader in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, holding command over the field for the first two-thirds of the race. Jensen, who continues seeking important national point shows, moved in for the lead and the duo had a spirited battle for several laps before Jensen gained control around lap 12. He led the remainder of the race for his 23rd Mid Mod victory of the season overall. Davis, eighth-starter David Simpson, Trenton Woodbeck and Rob Groom completed the top five.

Cole Chernosky (Makenna Burke Photo)

Chernosky led from start to finish in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature, crossing under the checkered flag with just shy of a 2 second lead ahead of Rick Simpson. Tyler Kostecki, Shawn Polonoski and Jeremy Britten were top-five finishers.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Copp started from the pole and was the early leader following a first-lap caution. Copp had heavy pressure from Cole Chernosky and Dave Cain through several cautions, but he prevailed to take the victory. Cain powered past Chernosky in the final turn to gain second at the stripe, while Chernosky was third ahead of Curtis Stieh and David Simpson in the top five.

Trey Hess was the early leader in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, controlling the first half of the race before eighth-starter Brauer picked his way forward from the fourth row and into the lead at the mid point. He continued to hold the top spot through the remaining laps and had a half-second advantage ahead of Kyle Bolt to take the victory. Bolt, 10th-starter Darren Wolframe, A.J. Kellar and Hess were top-five finishers.
