Redetzke, Koehler and Amundson lead the way in their classes Friday at Red Cedar Speedway
MENOMONIE, WI (August 21) - It was season championship for the WISSOTA Street Stocks and Red Cedar Speedway’s Hornet class Friday, August 21, as drivers gave it their all with the season winding down.
Winners in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action included Jesse Redetzke (Super Stocks), Nick Koehler (Midwest Mods) and Shawn Amundson (Street Stocks).
Sam Fankhauser and Cole Richards brought the field of WISSOTA Street Stocks to the green flag, with Fankhauser scooting out to the early advantage. Shawn Amundson was third, Layla Chaplin was fourth and Hunter VanGilder was fifth to complete the first lap.
Amundson worked the outside line and alongside Fankhauser in the fight for the lead, while Jeff Ekdahl raced by Richards for third.
The front duo continued to pace the field side by side, with Ekdahl now on their heels. VanGilder took fourth from Richards as the field had nine laps left on the board.
One lap later Amundson was scored the leader, while VanGilder made his way past Ekdahl along the low side for third. Richards was fifth.
Amundson’s lead was less than half a second with four to go, and Fankhauser pulled back in to Amundson’s bumper. Meanwhile, VanGilder and Ekdahl were side by side in the turns for third just behind them.
With two to go, lapped traffic was just ahead for Amundson, but he was able to clear the lapped racer and took the checkered flag. Ekdahl and Fankhauser were side by side by side with the lapped car coming to the finish line and Ekdahl snagged second, while Fankhauser was third. VanGilder and Richards were top-five finishers.

In the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, Joe Swearingen and Jesse Bryan brought the field to the green flag. After a first-lap caution, Nick Koehler moved into second down the backstretch back under green and used the highside to swing past Swearingen to complete the lap. Bryan was third, ahead of Travis Anderson and Calin Haas in the top five.
Koehler grew his lead to more than 1.5 seconds in the ensuing laps. As the field worked through lapped traffic with a handful of laps to go, Bryan moved into second and Anderson was third. Haas was fourth and Kolby Kiehl was fifth.
The checkered flag went to Koehler once again this season, followed by Bryan, Anderson, Haas and Kiehl in the top five.
Jesse Redetzke (Jalen Kitchner Photo)
Redetzke was the early leader in the WISSOTA Super Stocks, with Dan Nissalke taking second ahead of Bart Steffen and Alex Myers fighting side by side for third. Leslie Leu was fifth with pressure from Tommy Richards for the spot.
With seven laps complete, Redetzke’s advantage was nearly 3 seconds ahead of Nissalke, while Myers was slightly ahead of Steffen in that fight for position. Steffen was able to pull ahead of Myers down the backstretch, with Myers having the advantage out of turn four each lap. With seven laps to go, Myers broke away from the gridlock with Steffen for third.
Out front Redetzke’s lead grew by another full second ahead of Nissalke. Redetzke cleared the lapped traffic ahead in the final laps and took the victory, with Nissalke, Myers, Steffen, and Richards completing the top five.
Josh Wahlstrom notched another win in the USRA Late Model feature, while Preston Coombs was the winner in the Hornets. Karl Genett topped the Legends feature.
