Dittman grabs more than two grand, Sabraski scores twice, Nichols roars out of retirement and Randt beats the odds during Clash At Casino
By Tony Steuck
WATERTOWN, SD (August 16) - Matthew Dittman pocketed a whopping $2,300 paycheck for winning the WISSOTA Hornet portion of the Clash at Casino on Saturday night. Along with the historic payout in the Hornets, Shane Sabraski left town with a pair of four-figure winner’s cuts, Mike Nichols came out of retirement for a victory, and Levi Randt earned his first checkered flag at Casino Speedway.
Dittman blasted to the lead when the green waved into turn one for the three-wide start in the 30-lap WISSOTA Hornet main event. Travis Bruns shook out into second after a couple laps, while Christian Kast, Dylan Tirrel and Adam VanDerostyne engaged in a battle for third. Dittman had a straightaway lead and worked through the tail of the field before the first caution with 11 laps scored.
Dittman edged away again under green while Tirrel and VanDerostyne displaced Bruns, and began a door-to-door battle for second which lasted the duration of the run. The final caution waved with 12 laps remaining.
Dittman again proved his dominance, while Tirrel and VanDerostyne remained locked in an intense battle for second. Tirrel used the lower lane until the final laps, when VanDerostyne squeezed under and won the race for second to the line.
Dittman led all 30 laps — which paid $10 a lap — and added his lap money and contingencies to the $2,000 winner’s check. VanDerostyne, Tirrel, Bruns and Kast rounded out the top five.

Jayden Bogh and Cory Giessinger raced door to door early in the 20-lap WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Bogh secured the lead on lap two and brought Randt with him to the outside of Giessinger. After a few laps, Randt secured second with Maria Broksieck in the mix as well.
Randt turned up the pressure on Bogh for the lead, and Broksieck moved by Giessinger for third before the halfway point. The top three were in close contention when they caught the back of the field. As the field completed lap 13, a slower machine just caught the right front of Bogh as he moved down the track, which allowed Randt and Broksieck to shoot by into the top two spots; Bogh made another lap or so, but retired with damage to the front end.
Broksieck put heavy pressure on Randt in the last five laps. She ducked under the leader on multiple occasions, but Randt fought back every challenge for his first win at the oval. Broksieck settled for second, while Joe Martin won a lengthy battle over Giessinger for third. Giessinger did not make it through the tech shed, which moved Tony Miller to fourth and Andy Rossow to fifth.
Shane Sabraski (Cody Papke Photo)
Sabraski bolted to the lead when the green flag waved over the 25-lap WISSOTA Modified feature. Tony Konold was second early ahead of Adam Brotherton, but the caution waved on lap three. After another restart on lap five, Joseph Thomas weaved through traffic to second - Sabraski used the low groove, but Thomas stayed close on the cushion for a few circuits.
After a restart with nine laps scored, Thomas hammered the high side and stayed within a few lengths of the leader. Mike Stearns challenged Konold for third, and both were briefly close to Thomas before he slipped away. Sabraski had a half straightaway lead before the final caution with nine to go.
Once again, Thomas charged around the high side and was within striking distance of the lead for a few laps, but the No. 7A inched away in the low groove and raced to the $1,500 victory. Thomas was second ahead of Stearns, Konold and Brotherton.
Shane Sabraski (Cody Papke Photo)
Sabraski started on the pole for the 20-lap WISSOTA Super Stock main event. Despite a few cautions in the early laps, he set the pace and slipped away from the battle for second between Dexton Koch and Trevor Nelson. Austin Arbogast ran fourth ahead of a skirmish for fifth.
The final 15 laps ran without interruption, and Sabraski continued to stretch his lead to the checkered flag. Nelson provided heat to Koch in the battle for second until the final turns where he took an excursion through the infield. Koch finished second while Arbogast advanced to third. Travis Scott, who started 17th, picked up another spot in the final turn for fourth, and Nelson recovered for fifth.
Mike Nichols (Cody Papke Photo)
Nichols — a four-time WISSOTA Midwest Modified track champion — entered his first race of the 2025 season and started on the pole for the 20-lap main event. He battled with Justin Bjorklund over the first few laps; Bjorklund led lap one at the line, but Nichols edged ahead on lap two. Scott Hansen and James Trantina III battled for third before a pair of cautions on laps three and four.
Nichols slowly left the field after the green, while Bjorklund, Hansen and Trantina were locked in a fight for second, and were frequently three wide. Trantina secured third from Hansen at the halfway point, then raced under Bjorklund for second two laps later. Trantina gave chase and trimmed away at his disadvantage, but could not catch Nichols in his return. Bjorklund was third ahead of Hansen and Scott Tofte.
Scott Ward led all 40 laps for his second major Late Model victory at the speedway this season and his first win with the Tri-State Series. Josh Skorczewski and Trevor Anderson challenged Ward in the early stages, but Ward denied those challenges en route to victory. Anderson, Sabraski, J.T. Wasmund and Mike Stearns rounded out the top five.
