SAUK RAPIDS, MN (August 16) - The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series wrapped up its four-night racing weekend Sunday, August 16 at Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, MN. It was the series’ only stop at the central Minnesota track after the scheduled May event was cancelled due to rain.

Dave Mass earned the top honors in the Late Model main event, while Blake Adams and Justin Vogel also pocketed WISSOTA Dirt Track Series wins on Sunday.

A great field of 22 WISSOTA Late Model competitors were on hand, with Ryan Mikkelson setting fast time with a lap of 14.184 seconds around the banked quarter-mile clay oval.

Mikkelson and Dave Mass earned the front row for the night’s $3,000 to win, 40-lap feature event and Mass raced into the lead from the pole. He got the upper hand as the field rumbled into the first set of turns. Billy Kendall and Mikkelson were quickly into a side-by-side battle for runner-up honors on lap one, as Kendall took over second and immediately rolled up on Mass for the lead.

The first caution flew on lap two, which bunched up the field for a wild restart; Mass took off out front with Mikkelson, Kendall and Cole Searing running three wide for second, and Cory Crapser and Kevin Burdick side by side for fifth just behind.

Mass continued on out front with great battles behind. Mass continued working through lapped traffic after the halfway mark and was trying to put slower cars between himself and the battle for second behind him.

Caution flew for debris on lap 23; once again, it kept the field tight and on this restart, Burdick stole fourth and set his sights on third, while Mass was trying to drive off from Kendall, who was trying to stay with the No. 2. Burdick rolled alongside Kendall on lap 32 for second, bringing 13th starting Shane Sabraski with him into the top five just prior to a lap 36 caution, again for debris. The cushion was razor thin and many of the competitors were tearing the right side of their spoilers off on the fence.

With just four laps to go, Mass again took off out front, but Sabraski, Kendall and Burdick were nearly three wide for second for two laps, until the final caution flew on lap 38 for a Taylor Madrinich flat tire in turn two.

The final restart was a green-white-checkered situation, which allowed Mass clear track in front of him as he rolled on to this third career series victory. Sabraski nipped Burdick for second and garnered the hard charger honors.

The remainder of the top five at the line were Kendall and Dexton Koch.

After a side-by-side battle for much of the feature with Sabraski, Blake Adams won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Joey Jensen slipped past Sabraski in the last couple of laps to take second. Ryan Putnam and Landyn Randt completed the top five.

Justin Vogel won the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, moving from fifth at the start to the lead and eventual checkered flag ahead of Levi Randt, Braedyn Fleck, Tommy Pogones and Kyle Howland.

Abe Langager won the Crown Vic feature to round out the night.
