Greenbush gets a little wet, but not enough to soak their Saturday as Thomas, Jose and Drewry dig out feature wins
By Daniel Wiskow
GREENBUSH, MN (August 15) - The Rick Johnson Memorial race night at Greenbush Race Park had an ominous start, with clouds and spotty drizzle. That soon dissipated and left all the fans in attendance with a great night of racing to enjoy.
Connor Drewry, Greg Jose, and Joseph Thomas each scored a victory in WISSOTA Dirt Track Series competition on Saturday.
The first class to hit the track was the WISSOTA Midwest Modified field. Drewry and Cylen Vargason led the field to green and Drewry showed speed right away, pulling away into the lead. Vargason stayed in second for some time during the first half of the race, but a mishap later in the race ended his hopes of a win.
All race long Drewry was the car to beat. After a slew of caution flags, he left the rest of the field in the dust as he claimed the win. Taylor Jacobson, Hunter Besson, and Justin Olson were top-four finishers, while Vargason climbed his way back to fifth at the finish following the earlier race incident.

The WISSOTA Street Stocks took to the track, led by Chris Dudley and Deryk Weleski on the front row. Dudley led early and was a force for the early part of the race. As the race went on, it was the cars of Greg Jose and Jerome Berger working their way forward. Jose eventually gained the lead, but on the white flag lap Jon Halvorson challenged for the win. He got into the rear of Jose and was sent to the rear of the field.
The field set up for a green-white-checkered finish, with Jose taking home the Rick Johnson Memorial victory followed by Weleski and Berger in third.
Joseph Thomas (Steven Young Photo)
The WISSOTA Modifieds were the last cars out on clay oval. Joseph Thomas and Ryan Johnson led the field to the green flag. Thomas led early and pulled away. Imrie, who started fourth, soon moved into the runner-up position. As the race went on, it was clear Thomas was the class of the field. He pulled away to a comfortable win, with Imrie coming home in second. Blake Ferris completed the podium.
In honor of the Border Bandit Rick Johnson, the Super Trucks were in attendance Saturday and put on a great race. Hayden Audette and Jason Somack led the field into the opening straightaway. Once the race was underway, Somack had an eventful night. Early on he was challenging for second, then was sent to the rear of the field. He worked his way back to the podium by the end of the race.
Hayden Audette led most of the race until Chris Audette snuck by on the low side of the track to take the top spot. He went on to take the win followed by Hayden Audette, and Somack on the podium.
Dexter Dvergsten made what became the winning pass for the lead about three laps into the Lightning Sprint race and drove on toward victory ahead of Emmit Isane and Luke Hendrickson in the top three.
Nick McCann’s consistency was too much to overcome for the rest of the field in the Four Cylinders, and he snagged the win followed by Gabriel Espe and Brooke McCann on the podium.
