Glenz gets a $4k payday for winning Challenge Series stop Friday at Red Cedar Speedway

MENOMONIE, WI (August 8) - Jesse Glenz emerged victorious and added a $4,000 payday to his checkbook after topping a stout field of 37 WISSOTA Late Model competitors, as Red Cedar Speedway hosted the WISSOTA Challenge Series Friday in Menomonie.

In other WISSOTA Dirt Track Series action, Blake Adams scored the dominant victory in the Modifieds, while the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature was cut due to curfew.

Ashley Anderson and Cory Crapser earned the front row for the 40-lap Late Model feature, with Crapser getting the upper hand and leading the opening lap.

Crapser continued to run out front over the first four laps, with Anderson, Kevin Eder, Jake Hartung and Glenz inside the top five early. Great battles ensued inside and outside the top five early, until the first caution flew on lap four for a Todd Frank spin in turn two.

On the restart, Anderson fired off perfectly and stole the lead from Crapser, while Glenz slipped into third and began to make it a three-car battle out front.

Just behind the leaders, Hartung and John Kaanta fought for top-five positions, and A.J. Diemel and James Giossi did the same just outside the top five.

As the leaders began to approach lapped traffic, the best battle on the track was for the lead among Anderson, Crapser and Glenz; those three drivers tightened their battle lap after lap, while negotiating the slower cars at the back of the field.

Anderson led Crapser, Glenz, Eder and Giossi at the halfway point, with many side-by-side battles ongoing throughout the field until the second and final caution flew on lap 24 for a Hartung-and-Kaanta crash on the backstretch.

On the restart, Glenz pounced and stole the lead from Crapser and Anderson in turn two, blasting off into the top spot, which he held for the remaining 16 circuits to race to his fifth career series victory and first since 2021. Anderson, Crapser, and Diemel - who stole fourth from Eder at the line - finished in the top five.

Shane Sabraski was the leader by a hair on the opening lap of the WISSOTA Modified feature, with fellow front-row starter Blake Adams right on his bumper. Adams used the ultra high side to blast past Sabraski down the backstretch during lap two, and moved out to more than a 1 second lead the following lap. Behind the front duo, Mark Hanson was third, Cory Mahder was fourth, and Ben Hillman had displaced Mike Anderson for fifth.

With eight laps in the books, Adams was already moving through backmarkers, with more than a 3-second lead ahead of Sabraski. Hanson held third, while behind him it was a side-by-side battle for fourth between Hillman and Mahder, with Kaden Blaeser showing a nose in the corners as well.

Drivers in the top five were along the high side for the most part, with only precarious passing opportunities available in the latter stages of the race, as those frontrunners continued to also navigate lapped traffic.

Out front, Adams was consistent and grabbed the victory by just over 3 seconds at the checkered flag. Sabraski, Hanson, Hillman and Mahder completed the top five.

In the USRA Late Model feature, Derek Nelson scored the victory from the pole. Due to curfew, feature races for the Midwest Mods and Hornets were postponed, but no information about possible rescheduling was available from the race track at press time.
