Kendall, Sabraski, Jackson, Carlson and Fosso lasso up WISSOTA rivals Thursday at Grand Rapids
By Shannon Reigel
GRAND RAPIDS, MN (August 7) - Grand Rapids Speedway hosted WISSOTA Dirt Track Series racing on a hot August Thursday night, highlighted by an appearance of the Fastlane Northland WISSOTA Super Stock series.
Winners in sanctioned action included Billy Kendall, Shane Sabraski, Tim Jackson, Austin Carlson, and Brady Fosso.
In the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, Paul Ripley and Matthew Cunha led the field to green, with Ripley the early leader ahead of Cunha. Alex O’Dell and Michael Blevins raced side by side for third, with Tim Jackson fifth.
With several laps completed, Cunha spun in turn one and made contact with Blevins; the caution fell and the field regrouped.
Ripley kept out front on green, with Jackson moving into contention for second alongside Blevins. O’Dell and Gary James Nelson raced side by side for fourth.
Jackson took second and then went to the outside of Ripley for the lead, making the pass a couple of laps later. Blevins raced in third, O’Dell was fourth, and Darrin Lawler battled with Nelson and Feltus for fifth.
Jackson drove on to victory lane ahead of Ripley, Blevins, O’Dell, and Scott Thompson, who shot by Lawler with two laps left to complete the top five.

The WISSOTA Hornets were led to the initial green by Mark Gangl and Zeb Graves, before a first-lap caution was thrown when Kaitlyn Kohl rolled on the track; she was reported to be okay.
Back under green Gangl and Graves battled for the lead, just ahead of Brady Fosso and Nick Ruzich. Fosso raced to the outside of Gangl and Graves before a caution for debris was thrown with 10 laps to go.
As the field was back underway, Gangl kept out front, while Fosso and Graves battled for second; Fosso took the spot. Graves was then under pressure from Russell Kiker, Jr., and Kiker took third. Out front, Fosso went to the high side to try to get by Gangl for the lead. Fosso took the spot a couple laps later, with Kiker now challenging for second.
As the field came through the backmarkers, Fosso maneuvered through flawlessly and took the victory. Gangl, Kiker, Zeb Graves and Easton Pfeiffer were top-five finishers.
Shane Sabraski (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
The WISSOTA Super Stocks were led to the green by Andy LaBarge and Alex Myers. Myers was the early leader, with Terran Spacek grabbing second and LaBarge falling into the clutches of Shane Sabraski. Curt Myers was fifth.
Alex Myers and Spacek were in a great back-and-forth fight for the lead over several green-flag laps, with Sabraski right on their bumpers. Curt Myers had moved into fourth.
With 17 laps to go Spacek had a slight lead, but one lap later Sabraski moved past both Spacek and Myers into the lead.
Even through heavy lapped traffic, Sabraski’s charge could not be stopped. He took the victory ahead of Spacek, Alex Myers, Tommy Richards, and Dylan Nelson in the top five.
Billy Kendall (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
Fifteen WISSOTA Late Models took to the track, led to green by Kyle Peterlin and Billy Kendall. Kendall was the early leader, jumping out to a good advantage right away. Zach Wohlers was third, with Johnny Broking fourth and Derek Vesel getting by Danny Vang for fifth.
As the racers reached lapped traffic, Peterlin closed back in on Kendall, but could not make a pass stick through several attempts. Kendall took the eventual win ahead of Peterlin, Wohlers, Broking, and Sabraski in the top five.
Austin Carlson (Jennifer Tomczak Photo)
The WISSOTA Pure Stocks then rolled onto the track to close out the program, with Dustin Puffe the early leader and Alex Berg in second. Austin Carlson shook out into third, challenging Berg the next lap for second and taking the spot.
Puffe continued to lead out front, with Carlson having a good advantage on Jake Smith in third at the halfway mark.
As the laps wound down, Carlson caught Puffe, maneuvering past with two laps left to go. Carlson took home the win, while Puffe had to settle for second. Smith, Bob Klein, and Berg completed the top five.
