Greseth gets eighth win, Edginton scores fourth feature, and Blacklance breaks into victory lane at River Cities

GRAND FORKS, ND (August 7) - Shane Edginton and Cole Greseth returned to victory lane as River Cities Speedway kicked off the final month of regular season action during its annual Hall of Fame celebration Friday night. Greseth’s eighth win and Edginton’s fourth were joined by Aaron Blacklance’s first trip to victory lane in Grand Forks since 2022 in what was the second closest finish of the season.

Matt Schow and Josh Beaulieu made up the front row of the WISSOTA Late Model feature. Schow led his first lap of the season in Late Model competition after the initial start was waved off. Following the second caution with one lap in the books, Edginton moved past Beaulieu into second as Schow and Edginton remained the top two following the third caution on lap three.

Eighth-starting Joey Pederson had moved into third between cautions, as the fourth slowdown of the event on lap five brought out the red flag. John Seng and Tucker Pederson came to a stop at the top of turn four. Neither rolled, but Pederson's night came to an end; Seng restarted the race inside the top five.

Edginton moved around the top of the track on the restart and moved past Schow to take the lead leaving Schow to try and defend the runner-up spot against the hard charging Joey Pederson. The pair remained side by side for a number of laps before Pederson took second for good just before the midway point.

Seng continued to battle following the lap-five caution as he became the next to battle Schow for position, this time for the final spot on the podium. Seng eventually won that battle as the top two runners pulled away from the rest of the field.

Pederson ate into Edginton's lead in the closing laps as the pair cycled around the quarter-mile around the cushion, but ran out of time as Edginton went on to win his fourth race of the season. Seng, Brody Troftgruben, and Schow completed the top five.

Reise Stenberg and MaKenna Breidenbach made up the front row of the WISSOTA Midwest Mod feature. Breidenbach, who won her first feature on Hall of Fame night at the track last year, used the middle of the race track to lead the opening lap. Stenberg pulled pit side on the second lap, moving Ryan Schow and Aaron Blacklance into the second and third spots, respectively.

Breidenbach began to work lapped traffic on the ninth lap and was able to put a lapped car between herself and Schow at the halfway mark of the 20-lap event. Breidenbach continued to make her way through lapped traffic, giving herself insurance markers between herself and Schow until the two-to-go signal.

Breidenbach took the white flag as the leader before Schow made contact with an infield tire marker in turn two, spinning to a stop while a pile-up ensued in turns three and four, bringing out the only caution of the race. Blacklance moved into the runner-up spot when the race resumed with Jory Berg following in third. Breidenbach hit a rut coming off of turn four, making contact with Blacklance as the lead duo saw the white flag for the second time.

Breidenbach hit the same rut coming off of turn four coming to the checkered, allowing Blacklance to diamond off the fourth corner and steal the win at the line by .046 seconds. Berg, Brennan Schmidt, and Austin Hunter completed the top five.

Blaine Barnes and Charlie Paradis made up the front row in the WISSOTA Street Stock main event. Barnes led the opening lap with John Halvorson moving into the second spot as Trey Hess and Cole Greseth moved in on Paradis to make it a three-car battle for the final podium spot on the second lap.

Greseth, as he has all season long, moved around the bottom in turn two on the third lap to move by Hess and continued on to do the same to Halvorson the following lap to move to the runner-up spot. Greseth’s charge from eighth continued as he moved to the inside of Barnes on the fifth circuit, using the bottom once again off of turn four to lead the lap.

Greseth began to open up a lead at the front of the field past the midway point and quickly built a three-second advantage. The battle for second through fourth remained close as Barnes held off Halvorson and Greg Jose to keep the runner-up spot.

Following the only caution of the race with four laps left, Jose moved around the bottom of Halvorson and then took a peek to the inside of Barnes as he attempted to go for a two-for-one pass, though Halvorson remained strong on the high side and briefly held the final podium spot.

Barnes fought hard to hold off the veterans in the final four laps of the race as Greseth went on to win by three seconds over Barnes, Jose, Halvorson, and Hess.
